Job Description
Verisk Life, Health & Travel (LHT) has over 25 years’ experience of providing risk rating tools to the insurance market. LHT provides medical and veterinary underwriting software to insurance providers that enables the rating of pre-existing medical conditions to allow informed underwriting decisions to be made on travel, health, pet and other health related insurance products. Clients range from multinational and specialist insurers to insurance brokers and aggregators.
Responsibilities
Main Purpose of the Job
In coordination with LHT’s Medical Director, the Veterinary Risk, Underwriting & Product Lead will be responsible for maintaining and developing the medical datasets that underpin Verisk’s Risk Rating Tools.
Working as the dedicated veterinary specialist within Verisk's Medical Team, the successful candidate will take ownership of the veterinary datasets that underpin Verisk's Pet Insurance Risk Rating Tool.
The role combines clinical veterinary expertise with insurance knowledge to ensure our pet insurance products remain medically accurate, commercially relevant and technically innovative.
Unlike a traditional veterinary nursing role, this position sits at the intersection of veterinary medicine, insurance, technology and product development. - Veterinary Risk Assessment – Develop and maintain evidence-based veterinary risk assessments across canine and feline conditions, ensuring consistency, clinical accuracy and commercial relevance.
- Product Ownership – Act as the veterinary owner of the Pet Risk Rating Tool, identifying opportunities to improve content, functionality and customer value.
- Dataset Management – Maintain and continuously improve the veterinary datasets through literature reviews, insurer feedback, claims analysis and emerging veterinary evidence.
- Product Innovation – Help develop the next generation of veterinary risk assessment methodologies and support new product initiatives across pet insurance.
- Sales & Client Engagement – Provide veterinary expertise during client demonstrations, implementation projects and strategic discussions with insurers.
- Technology & AI – Work alongside Product and Technology teams to develop AI-enabled capabilities, improve user experience and support future automation initiatives.
- Market Intelligence – Monitor developments across veterinary medicine, pet insurance and regulatory environments to ensure Verisk remains at the forefront of veterinary underwriting.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and develop Verisk's veterinary risk assessment datasets.
- Review emerging veterinary evidence and determine its impact on insurance risk.
- Develop new underwriting content for diseases, treatments and diagnostic advances.
- Support quarterly product releases and quality assurance.

- Partner with Product Managers to prioritise future development.
- Support Business Development with client meetings, demonstrations and presentations.
- Represent Verisk externally at industry events where appropriate.
- Support complex veterinary underwriting enquiries from clients.
- Build strong relationships with insurers to understand market needs.
- Contribute towards the long-term strategy of Verisk's pet insurance proposition.
