The Product team analyzes and creates the platforms that connect New York Magazine’s content with our audiences. We’re adept, curious problem-solvers who transform creative ideas into successful products. Great design and user experience are essential to our ability to connect with our readers, and the Product Design team plays an important role in what we create, ensuring that our products are engaging, useful, and beautiful.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute projects across the entire product lifecycle, from concepts to multi-platform product launches.
  • Present solutions to stakeholders, frame design decisions, articulate tradeoffs, and advocate for the reader and subscriber, while concurrently driving core business objectives.
  • Solve complex design problems, while synthesizing multiple inputs along the way.
  • Evaluate, iterate & optimize existing product performance.
  • Contribute to and maintain scalable pattern libraries & design systems that uphold a family of brand identities across platforms and touchpoints.
  • Collaborate cross functionally with engineering, product, and data, as well as consumer revenue and editorial stakeholders on product strategy and execution.
  • Participate in design rituals, give and receive constructive feedback, and help elevate the broader design team's culture and process.
  • You will report to the VP of Product Design, NYmag.com.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A design degree: Product Design, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 5+ years professional experience with a portfolio showcasing end-to-end responsive web and app experiences.
  • 5+ years creating complex typography systems, visual hierarchies, and scalable design systems.
  • 3+ years of experience designing for digital media, editorial, subscription, or commerce platforms.
  • Success translating multiple brand identities across several digital platforms and touchpoints.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, and enthusiasm for design iteration.
  • Ability to work autonomously, own projects end-to-end, and collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Solid understanding of modern digital technologies, information architecture, and accessibility standards.
  • 3-5 years experience working in Figma, including prototyping, component libraries & design systems
  • 1-2 years experience vibecoding to ship small features, and to build working prototype

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing high-converting subscription funnels and/or promotional messaging systems.
  • Ability to, (or willingness to learn) integrate AI tools into design+dev process
  • Experience with editorial production workflows and digital news publishing environments.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
