Position Summary...
The Director, Energy –Mechanical Infrastructure Engineering will serve as the technical leader for mechanical and thermal infrastructure supporting strategic deployments across Walmart's portfolio. You will assess site capabilities, define infrastructure requirements, establish engineering standards, develop scalable technical solutions, and lead the engineering partners required to execute them. This role spans cooling, HVAC, hydronic systems, plumbing, heat rejection, controls, and other critical mechanical infrastructure. You will partner across Energy, Engineering, Construction, Facilities, Procurement, and external partners from feasibility through design, commissioning, and operational turnover. A core mandate is translating complex facility requirements into reliable, repeatable solutions that scale across Walmart's footprint.
About the team: The Walmart Energy team manages one of the largest commercial energy portfolios nationwide, including stores, clubs, and supply chain facilities. The team focuses on optimizing energy costs, advancing renewable energy investments, and enhancing operational resilience through strategic market analysis and innovative technologies. Collaborating with Finance, Realty, Global Tech, Legal, and Operations, the team develops scalable energy solutions aligned with business goals and regulatory standards. Members contribute expertise in energy management, legislation, and continuous improvement, driving initiatives that support long-term enterprise value and operational excellence.
What you'll do...
- Assess site mechanical and thermal infrastructure for capacity, constraints, upgrades, and feasibility.
- Serve as technical authority for cooling, HVAC, hydronic, plumbing, heat-rejection, controls, and related systems.
- Establish basis-of design, engineering standards, specifications, reference designs, and acceptance criteria.
- Develop scalable solutions balancing capacity, reliability, resiliency, efficiency, safety, cost, schedule, and growth.
- Direct engineering performed by Engineers of Record, consultants, contractors, and equipment vendors.
- Lead technical decisions from feasibility through commissioning and turnover.
- Incorporate field lessons learned into future designs and standards.
- Build the partner ecosystem and engineering governance required to scale.
What you'll bring:
- Demonstrated experience designing, assessing, or governing complex mechanical and thermal infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, cooling, hydronic systems, pumps, piping,heat rejection, plumbing, controls, and related infrastructure.
- Experience evaluating capacity, reliability, redundancy, system configuration, and major infrastructure upgrades.
- Experience with large-scale, mission-critical, industrial, or high-capacity thermal infrastructure.
- Experience with liquid-based cooling, heat exchangers, advanced heat-rejection systems, or other high-density thermal applications.
- Experience developing engineering standards, reference designs, specifications, and commissioning requirements.
- Experience leading Engineers of Record, consultants, contractors, equipment vendors, and cross-functional technical teams.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Minimum Qualifications...

5+ years of engineering and construction experience in the energy, mobility, or building infrastructure sectors. Experience with site inspection, project acceptance tests, and commissioning procedures, and typical equipment utilized for such activities. Experience analyzing cooling and mechanical systems through technical reviews, data analysis, and on-site inspections. Experience with site inspections, project acceptance testing, commissioning procedures, and associated test equipment. Familiarity with technical due diligence, including evaluation of HVAC, liquid cooling, hydronic, plumbing, controls, and heat-rejection systems. Working knowledge of applicable mechanical, plumbing, building, fire, and energy codes and standards. Experience operating at scale within a highly matrixed organization. Strong team-oriented collaboration skills.
