Role summary: Walmart is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role involves driving the full software lifecycle, applying cloud-native architecture principles, and ensuring technical excellence through design reviews and mentoring. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to translate complex requirements into actionable solutions while promoting continuous improvement and innovation. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical judgment, adaptability, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, maintainable software aligned with business objectives. About the team: Our team delivers critical screening and compliance solutions that support Walmart Marketplace’s growth by enabling legitimate sellers and preventing fraudulent activities. We develop reliable, scalable software that safeguards the platform and its users. Emphasizing collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement, the team integrates advanced technologies, including AI, to enhance system capabilities. Members engage in full lifecycle development—from design through deployment—ensuring high-quality outcomes aligned with business goals. This environment fosters innovation, accountability, and the delivery of impactful solutions that protect and advance the business. What you'll do:

  • Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
  • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
  • Lead full software development lifecycle activities including coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure alignment with architectural best practices.
  • Build AI-driven applications and integrate ML components using multiple programming languages.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote standardization and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and track success metrics.
  • Drive continuous improvement through code quality reviews, innovation, and knowledge sharing.

What you'll bring:

  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong software development skills across the full lifecycle, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
  • Experience in platform engineering, infrastructure tooling, and AI/ML integration using languages such as JavaScript, Python, Java, and C++.
  • Ability to conduct system design reviews and apply software design patterns for secure, maintainable, and modular solutions.
  • Demonstrated leadership in mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions for long-term sustainability.
  • Proficient in data-driven decision making, debugging, and requirements analysis to optimize engineering outcomes.

Live Better U is a Walmart-paid education benefit program for full-time and part-time associates in Walmart and Sam's Club facilities. Programs range from high school completion to bachelor's degrees, including English Language Learning and short-form certificates. Tuition, books, and fees are completely paid for by Walmart.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
