Role summary:

As a Staff Software Engineer at Walmart Data Ventures, you will provide technical leadership in advancing reliability, scalability, and operational excellence across the organization. You’ll drive SRE best practices and build reusable automation, observability, and AI-powered capabilities that strengthen reliability across platforms and services. Through hands-on engineering and cross-functional influence, you’ll accelerate incident resolution, reduce operational toil, and drive customer support excellence by delivering resilient, scalable technology solutions

Walmart Data Ventures unlocks the value of Walmart’s data through scalable B2B solutions that empower merchants and suppliers with actionable insights.

Within Data Ventures, the Site Reliability Engineering team serves as a central enablement function, driving reliability, scalability, and operational excellence across platforms and applications. We establish SRE best practices and build reusable automation, observability, and AI-powered capabilities—including intelligent agents and self-healing systems—to accelerate incident resolution, reduce operational toil, and strengthen service reliability at scale.

What you'll do:

  • Drive SRE strategy and best practices across Data Ventures, establishing standards for reliability engineering, observability, incident management, and operational readiness.
  • Architect reusable automation frameworks, unified dashboards, and SLO tooling to improve platform-wide visibility and reliability.
  • Lead AI-driven reliability innovation by engineering GenAI-powered agents for incident triage, root cause analysis, workflow automation, self-healing systems, and customer support.
  • Set technical direction for scalability, resilience, and reliability across Data Ventures, driving measurable reductions in incidents, MTTR, and operational toil.
  • Influence engineering practices through architecture reviews, reusable patterns, and cross-functional partnerships.
  • Advance support excellence and engineering quality through automation, CI/CD, testing, production readiness, and continuous improvement.

What you'll bring:

  • Strong software engineering expertise in scalable distributed systems and cloud-native applications.
  • Deep knowledge of SRE principles, SLIs/SLOs, observability, incident management, and root cause analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with AI/GenAI and agentic solutions for reliability engineering, customer support, automation, and self-healing systems.
  • Proven ability to build reusable automation and observability capabilities that standardize practices across teams.
  • Proficiency in programming, cloud platforms, microservices, data pipelines, Kubernetes, containers, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Technical leadership in architecture, engineering standards, and cross-team reliability improvements.
  • Strong SDLC expertise, including CI/CD, testing, deployment, monitoring, and debugging.
  • Excellent ownership, problem-solving, and communication skills to influence engineering practices and deliver measurable reliability improvements across Data Ventures.

Bentonville, Arkansas US-10735: The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Sunnyvale, California US-11658: The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include: - Stock
