We seek a broadly trained biologist with specific expertise in human biology and the health sciences, possessing a deep commitment to undergraduate teaching within a liberal arts framework. Preferred qualifications include experience delivering health science coursework and a demonstrated track record of mentoring students through pre-health advising, experiential internships, and undergraduate research. The successful candidate will join the Department of Biology and Chemistry, an interdisciplinary and collaborative learning community that supports majors in Animal Science, Biochemistry, Biology, and Conservation Biology. Courses taught by the candidate will also support students pursuing other majors in the environmental and social sciences.

Position Description

The Biology and Chemistry Department seeks a dedicated educator and scholar to teach foundational and upper-level coursework in the health and biological sciences. The successful candidate will teach key courses such as Introduction to Health Sciences, General Biology, and Human Biology (non-majors course), alongside specialized offerings in their area of expertise—such as Cell Biology, Epidemiology, Anatomy and Physiology, or Biostatistics—that support our Biology, Animal Science, and Biochemistry majors. A key responsibility of this role includes developing a signature community-engaged health science course that bridges academic study with local health initiatives. A core component will also be pre-health advising, delivering targeted academic guidance, career mentorship, and specialized programming to pre-Health students. Building on these student mentorship efforts, the candidate will establish an active research program that involves undergraduates, mentoring student capstone projects within the College’s Natural Science Undergraduate Research Sequence.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 24 credit hours of undergraduate instruction per academic year.
  • Provide academic and career advising to students.
  • Contribute to the College’s General Education Program, as determined to be appropriate in consultation with the Department Chair.
  • Provide service to the Department and the College.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, scholarly and/or creative activity.
  • Develop and teach a core community-engaged health sciences course that connects academic study with community health initiatives and partners.
  • Serve as pre-Health advisor delivering academic advising, career guidance, and targeted programming.
  • Mentor student capstone research projects within the Natural Science Undergraduate Research Sequence.
  • Participate in and contribute to the business of the Biology and Chemistry Department.
  • Develop a research program that involves undergraduate students.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D in Biology, Health Sciences or related field. ABD will be considered.
  • Experience teaching Health Sciences and Biology at the college level, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience with advancing a learning environment that is conducive to all students. For instance, experience incorporating inclusive teaching modalities, course content, and subject matter experts, and working with diverse student populations.
  • Experience in the areas of human health science in teaching or research settings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of demonstrated teaching excellence at the undergraduate level.
  • Demonstrated track record of scholarship in the health sciences, including peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience developing or teaching community-engaged courses.
  • Experience mentoring and advising undergraduate students pursuing health-related careers.
  • Experience supporting student internships and/or developing external internship partnerships.
  • Experience mentoring undergraduates in research.
  • Evidence of experiential and applied learning pedagogy.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
