JOB TITLE: Mural Artist for school feeding murals

TYPE OF CONTRACT: National Consultant (SSA) – output-based

UNIT/DIVISION: WFP Cambodia Country Office /Programme

DUTY STATION (City, Country): Phnom Penh, Cambodia (the postholder will be required to travel to field locations on official WFP missions during the assignment)

DURATION: November – December 2026; exact dates to be agreed with WFP

REPORTING: The Mural Artist will report to the Protection and Inclusion Officer and work under the creative guidance of the Creative Lead. The artist will coordinate with WFP programme, communications and school feeding colleagues, school representatives and other key stakeholders.

BACKGROUND

WFP plans to co-create and install a series of school murals across Cambodia, with its school feeding programme as the central theme. The murals will illustrate how school meals support children’s nutrition, learning, community participation and local food systems. A gender, protection and inclusion lens will guide the imagery and messages to reflect dignity, equality, diversity and meaningful participation.

In parallel, the UN Gender Thematic Group is planning a mural activity for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, with WFP as lead coordinator. The lasting school-based murals should contribute to the campaign’s objectives by promoting safe, inclusive communities, positive social norms and respectful relationships. They should also encourage the participation of women, girls, men, boys and persons with disabilities in school and community life.

Purpose of the Assignment

The Mural Artist will translate the approved creative concept and designs into high-quality, durable murals at selected schools. The artist will work under the creative guidance of the Creative Lead, in close coordination with WFP, school representatives and relevant local stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Planning and site preparation

  • Review the approved creative brief, mural designs, colour references and implementation guidance provided by the Creative Lead and WFP.
  • Participate in site assessments to confirm wall dimensions, surface condition, accessibility, preparation needs and practical production constraints.
  • Prepare scaled layouts, grids, tracings, stencils or other materials needed to transfer the approved designs accurately onto the selected walls.
  • Adapt each composition to the wall while preserving the approved concept, key messages, proportions, visual identity and inclusion considerations.
  • Advise on the types and quantities of paints, primers, sealants, tools, access equipment and protective materials needed at each site. Support procurement as agreed with WFP.

2. Mural production and finishing

  • Clean and prepare wall surfaces, including minor preparatory work. Promptly flag structural damage or specialist repairs outside the artist’s scope.
  • Paint the murals to a high professional standard, ensuring consistent colours, clear lines, legibility, a quality finish and durability.
  • Follow the Creative Lead’s guidance and incorporate agreed technical corrections or refinements during production.
  • Apply agreed finishing or protective coatings and complete all required touch-ups before handover.

3. Site management, safety and coordination

  • Protect school property and surrounding areas. Keep materials, tools and workspaces secure, clean and organized.
  • Comply with agreed timelines, school access arrangements, site rules, safety requirements and WFP protection requirements.
  • Provide brief progress updates and immediately flag any design, material, weather, access or safety issues that could affect quality or completion.

EXPECTED OUTPUTS AND DELIVERABLES

  • Initial briefing: Participate in a briefing with the Creative Lead and WFP on the approved design, production approach and site requirements.
  • Site measurements and materials: Provide measurements and a brief materials and equipment list for each assigned mural site.
  • Wall preparation and design transfer: Prepare the wall and accurately transfer the approved artwork to the selected surface.
  • Completed murals: Deliver the mural or murals at the assigned school site or sites, consistent with approved designs and adapted to confirmed wall dimensions.
  • Progress documentation: Provide regular updates, including photographs at agreed stages of production.
  • Finishing and corrections: Complete all agreed finishing, protective coatings, corrections and touch-ups before handover.
  • Site clean-up: Leave the site clean and orderly, removing artist-generated waste, unused materials and temporary protective coverings.
  • Final handover: Complete handover with the Creative Lead and WFP and correct any reasonable defects identified during the quality review.

Payment will be made upon receipt of the stated deliverables and WFP’s confirmation of satisfactory completion. The contract value is based on estimated mural areas and the unit rate shown below. The final payable amount may be adjusted to reflect the actual completed mural area at each site.

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
