Position Summary White Plains Hospital is a rapidly growing organization that is committed to expanding the services that can be provided to our community. Our Psychiatry program is expanding and continues to grow. Our team is made up of Psychiatrists and NP’s with a strong fund of knowledge. In this position, you will have the ability to practice consultative Psychiatry under the appropriate physician supervision as defined by NYS Law. The position is unique in that there it brings excellent relationships between NP’s and Psychiatrists, and opportunity to consult on a mixed group of medical, surgical, neurological, and cardiac patients. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following: 1. Understand and adhere to the WPH performance standards, policies and behaviors. 2. Obtain psychiatric and medical histories, form level of care and capacity opinions, and order medications as appropriate. Consult with physicians as needed. 3. Provide consultation services for patients in the ED, on medical/surgical floors, in ICU/stepdown, or post-operative patients. 4. Work collaboratively with attending physicians and interdisciplinary team to determine treatment recommendations for each patient on the critical care service. 5. Discuss treatment plans, goals, and other pertinent issues with family members of patients requiring psychiatric assessment/treatment. 6. Perform procedures under the scope of practice of the Psychiatric NP. 7. Document patient information and care in the medical record. 8. Proficiency with pharmacology, pathophysiology, psychiatry and clinical medicine. 9. Demonstrate skill in gathering and analyzing medical, psychological and socioeconomic patient data. 10. Demonstrate ability to make responsible decisions within the scope of NP practice. 11. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements Nurse Practitioner:
• Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited school (highly recommended)
• Current NYS license to practice as an NP.
• Current NYS certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
• Maintains a current collaborative practice agreement.
• Current National Certification
Proficiency in all procedures, techniques and skills approved in the delineation of privileges
Core Competencies Procedural Skill Requirements: • Psychiatric history-taking and diagnostic interview • Psychiatric differential diagnosis
Knowledge Base Requirements: • Foundational knowledge base in providing mental health care to a patient population with high acuity • Preferred experience in working with a mixed medical and surgical patient population Behavioral Requirements: • Teamwork • Adaptability • Excellent communication skills • Ability to work in high stress environment Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment • May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks.
