The posting
Ready to start your funeral service internship? Wherever you are in your mortuary education, let's connect. Where you complete your internship is one of the biggest decisions of your early career. You've been called to serve others. So have we.
Vertin's paid 2027 Funeral Director Internship Program is built for new graduates who want more than a place to log hours: real training, real support, and a setting that fits the career you're picturing.
Since 1904, Vertin has helped families honor the lives of the people they love. Today we are a family-owned company with 90+ funeral homes across 8 states, guided by one mission: Honoring Lives and Enriching Caregivers. That second part matters. As an intern, you're not just an extra set of hands. You're a future funeral director we're invested in.
Location: 90+ funeral homes across 8 states, from rural communities to busy metro areas. Pay: $65,000 Start date: Flexible, built around your mortuary science program timeline.
Still exploring your options? Good.
You don't need to have it all figured out. Maybe you're weighing a busy urban firm against a close-knit rural community, or you're not sure yet what kind of funeral director you want to become. Our first conversation is a chance to talk it through, ask questions, and see whether Vertin is the right place for you.
Why start your career with Vertin
- A paid internship. You're compensated for your time and work, because your learning has value.
- A location that fits your goals. Rural or urban, high volume or low volume: choose the setting and experience you want across our 90+ funeral homes.
- Experienced, trained preceptors. Learn alongside seasoned funeral directors who are prepared to mentor and teach.
- A structured development plan. Clear goals and milestones keep you learning the profession, not just filling in.
- A peer network. Join a cohort of fellow interns for group discussions and connect with our internship alumni.
What you'll learn to do
Your coursework gave you the foundation. Here, with guidance from your preceptor, you'll put it into practice across every part of funeral service:
- Arrange and conduct funeral and memorial ceremonies in a professional, organized, and caring manner, in keeping with company policies and procedures.
- Care for the deceased with dignity, including removal and transfer, embalming, cosmetology, hairstyling, dressing, and casketing.
- Build strong community relationships through involvement in local organizations and charitable events.
- Help promote and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
- Follow all professional, state, and federal licensing regulations and rules that apply to funeral service.
How to get started
Applying here is the first step toward a conversation, not a long application. Once you submit, a member of our Talent team will reach out to schedule a short screening call. We'll get to know you and learn what you're looking for in an internship: the type of location, the experience you want, and your goals after licensure
If it feels like a good fit on both sides, we'll invite you to complete our full internship application.
