ABOUT FATHOM ROBOTICS

Fathom Robotics provides operations, maintenance, training, and applied engineering services for uncrewed maritime systems supporting U.S. Government and commercial defense programs. We have multiple active projects across a variety of government and commercial clients and are actively fielding systems in operational environments.

ROLE OVERVIEW

This role turns repair-level determinations into something the Navy can actually use: a properly formatted Maintenance Requirement Card, a maintenance tracking approach that meets the Navy's standard whether or not formal 3-M applies, and documentation that survives a real program review.

As our 3M Maintenance Coordinator, you'll take the repair-level analysis our reliability engineering team produces and translate it into real, usable Navy maintenance documentation for a fleet of small uncrewed surface vessels. You'll work directly with the engineers producing the analysis and the developer building the fleet status dashboard, making sure all of it matches how the Navy's 3-M system actually works, or, where full 3-M doesn't apply, the Navy's defined standard for an equivalent program, rather than a loose approximation of either.

LOCATION: Based in San Diego, CA, with travel to the Ventura/Oxnard area approximately twice a month

WORK TYPE: Full-Time

CLEARANCE: Eligible for or able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance

PROGRAM CONDITIONS

This role is tied to a pending government contract award. We're moving through interviews now, ahead of that award, so we're ready to move fast the moment it's confirmed, which may mean an offer contingent on award before the contract is finalized. We'll be direct with you at every stage about where things stand so you can make an informed decision, including if that means holding off on giving notice at a current job until award is certain.

You'll join a small, close-knit technical team working in rapid, iterative cycles directly with real end users, not a large program layered with process overhead. This is a long-term effort, not a short-term engagement, with genuine room to grow into technical leadership or program management as the work matures. This role is based in San Diego, CA, with travel to the Ventura/Oxnard area approximately twice a month.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Translate repair-level determinations into properly formatted Maintenance Requirement Cards (MRCs), following the MRC conventions the Navy's 3-M system defines under OPNAVINST 4790.4.
  • Verify whether existing Maintenance Index Pages (MIPs) and MRCs already exist for a given hull or component before drafting new ones, including checking with the applicable Integrated Logistics Support office and submitting Technical Feedback Reports to add coverage where none exists.
  • Maintain both short-term maintenance accountability tracking and a longer-term maintenance outlook and planning report, updated on a regular cadence, consistent with Navy small craft maintenance program conventions.
  • Administer 3-M/PMS program documentation and maintenance tracking, using SKED conventions where formal 3-M applies and an equivalent CMMS-based approach where it does not, for a fleet of small uncrewed surface vessels.
  • Develop Technical Procedures Manuals that integrate cleanly with existing Navy 3-M conventions, matching real formatting and structure rather than approximating it.
  • Coordinate directly with the reliability engineering and dashboard development functions to keep maintenance documentation, scheduling, and status reporting consistent with each other.
  • Support COSAL alignment and provisioning conventions for small craft sustainment.
  • Engage directly with Government stakeholders on 3-M program reviews and documentation acceptance.

Requirements

Desired Qualifications:

  • Direct, hands-on experience administering a Navy 3-M/PMS program.
  • Working knowledge of MRC writing and formatting conventions and SKED scheduling logic.
  • Comfort translating technical engineering findings into Navy-standard maintenance documentation other people rely on.

Preferred Backgrounds:

  • Former Navy Limited Duty Officer, Chief Petty Officer, or civilian Maintenance Program Coordinator with real program administration experience.
  • Experience specifically with small craft or boat maintenance programs rather than larger surface combatants; USV experience is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with COSAL provisioning conventions.
  • Familiarity with PQS structure (NAVEDTRA 43100 series); this role's output needs to interface cleanly with qualification standards produced elsewhere on the team.

Benefits

Compensation: $120,000–$155,000/year, commensurate with experience

Start Date: Contingent upon contract award, in the near term. We are running our hiring process now so we can bring the right person on quickly once award is confirmed.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
