The posting
We are seeking an AI Automation Engineer with a strong background in retail or convenience store operations to join our IT team. In this role, you will identify manual, repetitive processes across store operations and back-office departments and replace them with reliable, secure automated workflows and practical AI solutions. You will work across our ERP, POS, and data platforms to integrate systems, streamline data movement, and put AI capabilities directly in the hands of the business. A critical focus of this role will be delivering measurable efficiency gains while ensuring every automation is well governed, monitored, and supportable at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Automation: Identify high-volume manual processes across store operations, accounting, inventory, and HR, and design end-to-end automated workflows using tools such as Power Automate, Python, and API integrations.
- AI Solution Development: Build and deploy AI-powered solutions, including LLM-based assistants, intelligent document processing (e.g., vendor invoices, AP documents), and automated routing and classification, that reduce manual effort and improve decision-making.
- System Integration: Develop and maintain integrations between ERP, POS, and third-party vendor systems using APIs, webhooks, and middleware to ensure accurate, timely data flow across our store network.
- Data Pipelines & Replication: Build and support data pipelines and replication processes (e.g., Change Data Capture) that feed reporting, analytics, and AI workloads from the ERP and multi-store POS environments.
- AI Governance & Security: Implement automation and AI solutions in line with company security, data privacy, and PCI DSS requirements, including access controls, sensitive-data handling, and monitoring of AI output quality.
- Monitoring & Reliability: Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize production automations and AI workflows; maintain logging, alerting, error handling, and clear technical documentation.
- Operational Collaboration: Partner with department managers, store operations, finance, and marketing to translate operational problems into automation opportunities and track results such as hours saved and error reduction.
- Training & Enablement: Educate internal teams on new automated workflows and AI tools and promote responsible, effective adoption across the organization.
Requirements
What We’re Looking For

- Programming & APIs: Strong proficiency in Python, with solid experience working with REST APIs, JSON, and scripting languages such as PowerShell.
- AI / LLM Experience: Practical experience building solutions with large language model APIs (e.g., Azure OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenAI), including prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and evaluating output accuracy.
- Advanced SQL: Strong proficiency writing complex SQL queries and working with high-volume relational databases.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
