Who We Are

Museum of Ice Cream is an inclusive & immersive brand, designed to captivate your sweetest fantasy and sugar-filled daydreams online and IRL. At Museum of Ice Cream, we invite you to believe in the magic of creativity, to remind you that inclusive spaces do exist, and to show you that childlike wonder is worth savoring. In our world, ice cream is the agent of change and the vehicle to ignite the creative spirit that lives in all of us.

Fueled by the power of imagination, MOIC is a universe of possibilities with tons of room for you to explore.

The Challenge

Museum of Ice Cream is a visual, physical and social brand built to create joy, connection and wonder. Millions of guests have experienced our pink worlds. Our next chapter is about evolving that recognition into a culturally relevant global brand with a distinctive creative point of view. We are looking for a Brand Designer who can translate strategy and insight into compelling visual ideas and beautifully executed work across every touchpoint. This is an individual-contributor role for an art- and visual-first designer with strong conceptual instincts, emerging art-direction skills and rigorous craft. The right person can take a clear brief and creative direction, develop thoughtful visual solutions and carry assigned work through execution across digital, print and physical experiences.

The Team

The Museum of Ice Cream Marketing team is a nimble, high-impact group of strategists, creatives, designers, growth marketers and brand builders focused on driving cultural relevance, visitation and revenue growth. We work closely across Operations, Partnerships and our museums to create ideas that build brand desire and drive ticket sales. This role sits within the Creative team, reports to the Creative Director and works closely with Social, Growth, Lifecycle, Partnerships, Production, Experience Design and museum teams.

The Role

As Brand Designer, you will be a hands-on creative partner and highly capable maker. You will contribute original ideas, develop visual directions for assigned briefs and personally carry work through final production. Partnering closely with the Creative Director, Senior Designer, Senior Creative Producer and broader Marketing team, you will concept and execute integrated work across advertising, social, performance media, lifecycle, digital experiences, brand partnerships, out-of-home, print and physical environments.

You will bring strong design judgment to every assignment, articulate the thinking behind your choices and maintain a high standard of craft. This is an individual-contributor role, not a people-management position. This role is ideal for an agency-trained designer who is energized by concept development, campaign design, shoots, physical activations and detailed production files. You should want meaningful ownership of assigned work, strong creative mentorship and the opportunity to help evolve one of the world’s most recognizable experiential brands.

What You’ll Do

Concept & Art Direction

  • Concept: Contribute original ideas and develop visual territories from a clear brief and creative direction through final execution.
  • Art Direction: Develop and articulate visual directions for assigned projects. Support or lead defined aspects of photography, film, illustration, motion and experiential execution with guidance from the Creative Director or Senior Designer.
  • Collaborate: Partner with the Creative Director, writers, producers, marketers and fellow designers to create cohesive, insight-driven work and strengthen ideas through every stage of development.

Design & Production

  • Integrated Campaigns: Translate a strong campaign idea into a coherent visual system across advertising, social, lifecycle, digital, out-of-home, partnerships, retail and physical experiences.
  • Brand Systems: Support the Creative Director and Senior Designer in evolving MOIC’s visual system. Help translate new direction into clear guidelines, templates and tools, apply the system across real work and identify where it needs clarification.
  • Hands-On Design: Personally design, adapt and quality-check work, including layouts, presentations, digital assets for web, environmental graphics, retouching, prepress, production specifications and vendor-ready files.
  • Performance & Lifecycle: Design and iterate static and motion assets for paid media, landing pages, email and other conversion-focused channels, using performance insights to improve the work.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Integrated Partners: Work closely with Growth, Lifecycle, Social, Partnerships and museum teams to understand the business objective, audience, channel and experience behind each assignment.
  • Brand Stewardship: Apply MOIC’s evolving visual system consistently and help improve the tools used by internal teams, agencies, partners and vendors.
  • Production Partners: Work with the Senior Creative Producer, photographers, directors, illustrators, printers, fabricators and other specialists to ensure execution meets the creative intent and technical requirements.
  • Ownership: Manage multiple assigned projects, ask for direction when needed, respond constructively to shifting priorities and remain accountable for the craft, accuracy and completeness of final deliverables.

The salary range for this role is $110,000 - $130,000 USD, dependent on experience, as well as an annual bonus and options.

*Please note: While this role is in multiple markets, we are only seeking one Brand Designer. This person must be located in either Los Angeles or NYC.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience in brand design, campaign design or art direction, including experience within an advertising, design or creative agency and work for consumer-facing brands.
  • A strong, art- and visual-first portfolio demonstrating conceptual thinking and polished hands-on execution across several of the following: advertising, social, website and digital experiences, out-of-home, brand partnerships or physical experiences. The portfolio must clearly show work the candidate personally designed.
  • Experience contributing to visual identities, brand systems or guidelines and applying them consistently across channels and formats.
  • Strong visual instincts and experience contributing to the art direction of photography, film, motion, illustration or experiential work. Experience independently leading smaller shoots or defined workstreams is a plus.
  • Strong typography, layout, composition and image-making judgment, with the ability to create fresh work within a recognizable brand.
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud and Figma. Motion, video, retouching, illustration or presentation-design capabilities are valuable additions.
  • The ability to present ideas clearly, explain design decisions and use feedback to strengthen the work.
  • Strong organization and follow-through, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and move comfortably between concept development, design and hands-on production.

Benefits

The Good Stuff:

  • Competitive pay
  • Annual bonus
  • Stock options
  • PTO and sick time
  • Medical, dental, vision
  • Perks including Classpass, commuter discounts, employee assistance program, and, of course, unlimited ice cream
  • Employee development opportunities
  • 16 free museum tickets per year for friends and family, with free entry for self
  • 50% off retail products
  • Ability to advance within the organization

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
