About Gramian

Gramian Consultancy is a boutique consultancy specializing in IT professional services and engineering talent solutions. With a strong background in software engineering and leadership, we help companies build high-performing teams by matching them with professionals who truly fit their needs.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Civil or Structural Engineering Lead to oversee a team of technical trainers developing realistic, terminal-based engineering tasks for AI training and evaluation. You will review tasks for engineering accuracy, reproducibility, and automated grading reliability while mentoring a team of approximately 5–10 trainers. This role combines advanced engineering expertise, scientific computing, technical quality assurance, and team leadership to ensure tasks reflect authentic engineering workflows and require rigorous, multi-step problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review engineering tasks end to end, including problem statements, structural and geotechnical models, load cases, simulation data, computational environments, reference solutions, and automated tests.
  • Validate tasks covering structural analysis, finite-element analysis (FEA), earthquake and wind engineering, structural dynamics, geotechnical modeling, hydraulics, hydrology, transportation, and infrastructure systems.
  • Ensure tasks require meaningful, multi-step engineering reasoning and reflect real-world civil and structural engineering workflows.
  • Verify technical correctness across units, equilibrium, boundary conditions, load combinations, design codes, numerical stability, convergence, and safety factors.
  • Validate computational models, solvers, dependencies, and simulation outputs for accuracy and reproducibility.
  • Review automated graders to ensure they assess meaningful engineering outputs, including forces, deflections, drifts, settlements, factors of safety, flow rates, and structural performance.
  • Identify incorrect assumptions, technical errors, unsuitable tolerances, and opportunities to bypass genuine engineering analysis.
  • Provide actionable technical feedback and track task revisions through completion.
  • Mentor and support 5–10 trainers, allocate work, monitor quality and productivity, and resolve technical blockers.
  • Establish and maintain quality standards, technical documentation, and best practices across task development.

Requirements

  • PhD, postdoctoral experience, or equivalent advanced technical expertise in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, Julia, Fortran, or MATLAB/Octave.
  • Proficiency working in Linux and command-line environments.
  • Hands-on expertise in at least one major area, such as structural analysis, FEA, earthquake engineering, geotechnical modeling, or hydraulic/hydrological modeling.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, numerical methods, simulation workflows, and computational model validation.
  • Working knowledge of relevant engineering design standards, such as ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, Eurocodes, or IS codes.
  • Experience reviewing complex technical work, engineering simulations, research outputs, or computational models.
  • Strong analytical judgment and the ability to identify engineering inaccuracies, edge cases, and flawed assumptions.
  • Experience mentoring, reviewing, or leading small technical teams.
  • Excellent written communication skills for technical feedback and documentation.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.
