TAT Technologies' Greensboro site serves as the company's Center of Excellence for Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) and landing gear MRO services, as well as aircraft component leasing solutions. Supporting commercial and military aircraft operators worldwide, the site provides integrated maintenance and asset management solutions that maximize fleet availability, reduce downtime, and improve operational performance.
The Director of Operations provides hands-on operational leadership across all maintenance, repair, and production departments. This role integrates strategic business execution with day-to-day shop floor management, process optimization, budget oversight, workforce coaching, and customer delivery standards. The position is structured for a high-performing Senior Operations Manager ready to lead cross-functional MRO operations and drive cultural, operational, and financial excellence across multiple product lines.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily operations within a part 145 Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul environment ensuring safety, quality, turnaround time (TAT), and on-time delivery (OTD) goals are consistently achieved or exceeded.
- Implement Visual Standard Work, shop floor controls, continuous improvement (CI), and Lean manufacturing techniques across all production areas.
- Analyze process workflows, staffing levels, space utilization, and equipment layouts to optimize throughput and efficiency.
- Direct department managers and supervisors, setting clear job expectations, conducting performance reviews, and monitoring daily contributions.
- Drive annual work plan development and execution in alignment with company long-term goals and corporate vision.
- Oversee business unit margins and financial performance; monitor operational data, analyze variance reports, and implement corrective actions to drive profitability.
- Forecast labor, equipment, and capacity requirements; prepare, schedule, and manage annual operating and capital expenditure budgets.
- Review and approve operational invoices, labor hours, contract labor, and overtime relative to revenue.
- Partner closely with inventory and supply chain teams to conduct inventory utilization analysis, ensuring optimal stock levels to support product lines.
- Collaborate with senior executives to analyze market trends, support site growth, and align operations with broader commercial strategies.
- Maintain active, positive relationships with internal and external customers to sustain revenue, resolve technical or delivery issues, and elevate customer satisfaction.
- Maintain a culture dedicated to an accident/injury-free workplace in full compliance with OSHA, FAA, EASA, and government regulations.
- Collaborate with safety and quality departments to audit operational workflows, maintain standards, and ensure standard operating procedures (SOPs) are strictly enforced.
- Recruit, train, coach, counsel, and develop supervisory and production personnel.
- Build a collaborative, highly engaged workplace culture focused on accountability, skill development, and internal advancement.
- Plan and review compensation actions, enforce company policies, and drive performance management across all shift teams.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, or related technical field required.
- Experience: 5+ years of senior operational leadership experience (e.g., Senior Operations Manager, Business Unit Manager, or Plant Manager) within a complex manufacturing or maintenance environment. Experience in aviation/aerospace MRO is preferred.
- Continuous Improvement: Proven track record of implementing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Visual Management, or continuous improvement strategies that improved quality, reduced TAT, and lowered costs.
- Direct experience managing operational budgets, workforce planning, labor productivity, and understanding of P&L statements.
- Familiarity with FAA Part 145, EASA, and OSHA safety standards is highly desirable.
