About the Company & Role

Our client is an established international business specialising in premium products and solutions for residential and commercial projects across Australia and New Zealand. With a strong focus on quality, customer service, and design, the company is investing in its digital capabilities to make it easier for customers to discover products, evaluate options, access technical information, and complete their purchasing journey online. We are looking for a commercially driven Head of Digital & E-commerce to lead this transformation and turn the company's existing digital, creative, and technical capabilities into a cohesive growth strategy. This is a senior, hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who can connect website experience, e-commerce, digital marketing, and customer insights to measurable business results. You will work directly with senior leadership and lead cross-functional resources, taking ownership of digital priorities, website improvements, customer experience, and profitable growth across international markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Digital Strategy & Leadership: Develop and execute the digital and e-commerce strategy, aligning website improvements, marketing initiatives, and customer experience with business objectives and commercial targets.
  • Website Ownership & Optimisation: Own the website roadmap, identify customer pain points, prioritise improvements, and work closely with developers to translate business requirements into clear briefs, functional specifications, and acceptance criteria.
  • Customer Experience & Conversion: Improve the end-to-end customer journey across desktop and mobile, including product discovery, navigation, product comparison, enquiries, purchasing, and repeat ordering.
  • E-commerce Growth: Identify opportunities to increase online revenue, conversion rates, customer retention, and profitability through continuous testing, optimisation, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Product Information & Merchandising: Ensure product information, pricing, specifications, imagery, availability, delivery details, and supporting resources are accurate, accessible, and presented effectively.
  • Digital Marketing: Oversee SEO, emerging AI search and answer-engine optimisation (AEO/GEO), paid search, paid social, email marketing, organic social, and digital campaigns, coordinating specialist support where needed.
  • Content & Customer Education: Lead the development of useful customer-facing content, including buying guides, product comparisons, demonstrations, FAQs, and educational resources that address customer questions and build trust.
  • Technical & Systems Coordination: Work with development and systems teams to improve e-commerce functionality, integrations, data quality, and workflows across relevant business platforms, including ERP and CRM systems.
  • Trade & B2B Customer Journeys: Improve digital processes for trade accounts, customer enquiries, quotations, sample requests, technical downloads, and repeat purchases, ensuring smooth handoffs to sales and customer service.
  • Team & Project Management: Coordinate developers, designers, content creators, multimedia specialists, and data resources, establishing clear priorities, deadlines, quality standards, and accountability.
  • Performance Measurement: Monitor website performance, customer behaviour, digital marketing efficiency, qualified enquiries, revenue, and gross profit. Present actionable insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Continuous Improvement: Benchmark leading digital businesses, adopt proven approaches, test new ideas, and recommend investments based on customer value and expected commercial returns.

Key Performance Indicators

Success in this role will be measured by:

  • Online revenue and gross profit growth, with digitally influenced offline sales tracked separately.
  • Growth in qualified enquiries, sample requests, quotations, and enquiry-to-order conversion.
  • Improvements in website usability, product discovery, checkout completion, and repeat purchasing.
  • Increased trade account registrations, activation, and customer retention.
  • Improved organic and paid marketing efficiency, qualified traffic, and acquisition costs.
  • Website performance, including speed, responsiveness, accessibility, reliability, and information accuracy.
  • Delivery of prioritised website and digital growth initiatives with measurable customer and commercial impact.

What to Expect in Your First 90 Days

  • First 30 Days: Understand the business and its customers, audit the website and key customer journeys, review existing data, establish performance baselines, and develop a prioritised improvement roadmap.
  • Days 31–60: Implement high-impact improvements, align the development and creative teams around clear priorities, and establish consistent performance reviews.
  • Days 61–90: Evaluate results, retest key customer journeys, and present a six-month roadmap with recommended investments, costs, and expected business benefits.

Requirements

Required

  • At least 5 years of experience in digital growth, e-commerce management, digital commerce, or a closely related field.
  • Proven ownership of a company website and its e-commerce or digital customer journeys.
  • Demonstrated success improving conversion rates, customer experience, online revenue, or other measurable commercial outcomes.
  • Experience leading or coordinating developers, designers, digital marketers, content creators, or other cross-functional specialists.
  • Strong understanding of website usability, customer journey optimisation, conversion rate optimisation (CRO), digital analytics, and e-commerce best practices.
  • Practical knowledge of SEO, paid advertising, email marketing, and content strategy, with the ability to manage specialists across multiple channels.
  • Ability to translate business objectives and customer insights into clear technical requirements, development priorities, and creative briefs.
  • Strong analytical skills and commercial judgement, with the ability to interpret performance data and make evidence-based decisions.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, including the confidence to present recommendations, communicate with international stakeholders, and challenge ideas constructively.
  • Experience using AI tools for research, analysis, workflow improvement, and content development, with appropriate verification of outputs.
  • Strong project management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
