The posting

We are looking for a Head of Engineering / Technical Director to own the technology strategy, operations, and evolution of a multi-product ecosystem serving the construction industry across 15 Latin American countries.

The platform includes a B2B marketplace, AI-powered products, content platforms, business intelligence solutions, and AWS infrastructure managed in-house. This role is responsible for architecture, engineering execution, reliability, security, data, AI initiatives, and cloud cost optimization across the entire ecosystem.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the technical strategy, architecture, standards, priorities, and technical debt across the platform.
  • Lead the operation of AWS infrastructure, including EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront, deployments, networking, security, and system maintenance.
  • Act as the final escalation point for production incidents, driving root-cause analysis and long-term solutions.
  • Deliver products end-to-end, from business discussions through production deployment and verification.
  • Establish engineering best practices, including code reviews, branching strategies, documentation, deployment validation, and operational processes.
  • Build observability capabilities, including monitoring, alerting, tracing, service health checks, and operational dashboards.
  • Own security, access management, secrets, disaster recovery planning, compliance, and data protection.
  • Manage large-scale database operations, migrations, and data integrity across multiple markets.
  • Drive cloud, infrastructure, licensing, and AI consumption cost optimization.
  • Grow and scale the engineering organization, identifying hiring needs, onboarding new team members, and evaluating outsourcing opportunities.
  • Participate in critical incident response, including after-hours support when required.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience building, operating, and scaling software in production environments.
  • Proven experience defining the technical direction of an entire platform, not just individual services.
  • Strong experience across software engineering, cloud infrastructure, data platforms, and AI-enabled products.
  • Hands-on experience operating and optimizing AWS environments in production.
  • Experience implementing observability, monitoring, alerting, and reliability practices.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools and coding agents to improve engineering productivity.
  • Strong understanding of production systems, performance, scalability, reliability, and risk management.
  • Tech Stack: TypeScript, Next.js, React, NestJS, Nx Monorepo, Prisma, MariaDB, Tailwind CSS, Python, Django, AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront), nginx, PM2, Cloudflare, GitHub Actions, Stripe, WhatsApp Business, Product Analytics, and LLM APIs.
  • Demonstrated autonomy, ownership, and decision-making ability in fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Strong written communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to create clear technical documentation, operational procedures, and incident reports.

  • Experience operating multi-region or multi-tenant environments.
  • Technical SEO experience at scale.
  • Payment and subscription billing platform experience.
  • Advanced MySQL/MariaDB expertise, including indexing, locking, and query optimization.
  • Experience launching and operating AI-powered products in production.
  • Experience building observability frameworks from scratch.
  • Cloud cost management and FinOps experience.
  • Experience designing and implementing analytics and data platforms.
  • Previous experience leading the technology function of a startup, scale-up, or small engineering organization.
