Job Title: Head of Women’s & Girls’ Cricket

Reporting to: Director of Cricket

Location: Worcestershire County Cricket Club, New Road, Worcester, WR2 4QQ

Contract term: Full time, permanent

Background:

Worcestershire County Cricket Club is one of the 18 major county Cricket clubs which make up the England and Wales Cricket Board. We play to the highest level of professional Cricket with a history stretching back over 155 years. Our vision is to become Worcestershire’s premier destination for live sports, entertainment & hospitality, whilst providing great experiences for everyone who comes to New Road.

We are passionate about our people and strive to make our working environment a welcoming and inclusive one, fuelling ambition with opportunities and support to help our people achieve their personal and professional goals. Our values of Trust, Inclusiveness, Kindness, Resilience and Togetherness resonate across everything we do at the Club and define our culture and behaviours.

Our Women’s Team:

Worcestershire County Cricket Club is proud to compete at Tier 2 level with our Women’s Rapids team. Our ambition is to build a strong, sustainable and connected Women’s & Girls’ pathway which develops Worcestershire players, increases the depth and quality of our playing pool and provides a clear route from junior cricket into the senior Women’s team and, for those with the ambition and ability, into professional cricket.

Purpose of the Role:

The Head of Women’s & Girls’ Cricket will have overall responsibility and accountability for the direction, performance and development of Women’s & Girls’ cricket at Worcestershire County Cricket Club.

The role will provide leadership across the entire Worcestershire pathway, from the youngest age groups through to the Women’s senior team, ensuring there is a clear and connected approach to identifying, developing and progressing talented players.

A key part of the structure will be the line management and development of a dedicated lead for the younger age-group pathway, who will take day-to-day responsibility for coaching and programme delivery within those age groups. The Head of Women’s & Girls’ Cricket will retain overall accountability for the quality, direction and effectiveness of the whole pathway.

The role itself will have a significant hands-on coaching and performance focus, taking direct responsibility for the coaching, development, preparation and performance of the Women’s senior team and Under-18 programme.

Our ambition is to develop our own players, build a larger group capable of thriving at Tier 2 level and give our most talented and ambitious players the skills, experience and opportunity to progress into professional cricket. Success will therefore be measured not only by results, but by the strength, depth and progression of the Worcestershire player pathway.

The postholder will be responsible for establishing the cricketing philosophy, standards, culture and environment of the senior programme - creating a team that is ambitious, competitive, enjoyable to be part of and recognised for developing players.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

· Provide overall leadership, strategy and accountability for Worcestershire Women’s & Girls’ performance cricket and the complete player pathway.

· Act as Head Coach of the Worcestershire Women’s senior team, EPP and Under-18 programme, leading coaching, training, match preparation, selection, individual player development and performance.

· Establish and lead the culture, playing philosophy, standards and expectations of the senior Women’s programme.

· Develop individual players technically, tactically, physically and mentally, with a strong emphasis on helping players maximise their potential.

· Build greater depth within the Worcestershire playing pathway, increasing the number of players capable of progressing into and succeeding within the senior team.

· Create a clear and visible pathway from junior age-group cricket through U18s and into the senior Women’s team.

· Make the development of home-grown Worcestershire players a central objective of the programme, while appropriately supplementing the squad where necessary.

· Ensure talented players with the ambition and ability to progress beyond Tier 2 are prepared and supported to pursue opportunities within professional cricket.

· Line manage the junior player pathway lead (who will be responsible for the U16 squad and below), setting clear objectives and ensuring high-quality coaching, talent identification and player development throughout the programme.

· Maintain oversight of all age-group programmes and ensure consistency in coaching philosophy, standards, selection and player development across the pathway.

· Lead the identification, tracking and development of talented players and ensure appropriate individual development plans are in place.

· Maintain strong relationships with clubs, schools, partner counties, Tier 1 organisations and other relevant stakeholders to create the best possible development opportunities for Worcestershire players.

· Be accountable for delivery of the Women’s & Girls’ Performance Action Plan and all relevant ECB Minimum Quality Standards.

· Lead and complete the administrative and operational requirements associated with the senior programme and maintain overall oversight of administration across the pathway.

· Be responsible for the Women’s & Girls’ performance budget and ensure resources are deployed effectively against the Club’s strategic priorities.

· Work closely with Science & Medicine and other specialist support services to provide an appropriate performance environment for players.

· Lead and manage coaches and other performance staff, creating a collaborative and development-focused coaching team.

· Attend relevant ECB meetings, CPD and performance forums and ensure Worcestershire remains aligned with best practice in women’s player development.

· Report on the performance, progression and effectiveness of the Women’s & Girls’ programme, including the strength and depth of the player pathway.

Other responsibilities:

We expect our people to demonstrate and promote our values at all times to ensure Worcestershire County Cricket Club’s brand is always held in the highest regard both internally and in public. It is expected that you will:

· Be proactive in promoting inclusiveness across the Club and reporting any discrimination that you witness.

· Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk that visit the Club.

· Promote a positive environment that is welcoming, friendly and supportive.

· Foster a culture of togetherness and commit to contributing to a strong team ethic.

· Be passionate about delivering excellent experiences for players, colleagues, members, supporters and everyone who comes through our doors.

The nature of our work and the size of our team at Worcestershire County Cricket Club requires everyone to be flexible, motivated and an excellent team player.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
