Teacher Tutors is hiring part-time Geometry tutors to join our team on a flexible basis. We're seeking educators with strong math backgrounds to support high school students in honors and standard Geometry. This role is ideal for tutors who are confident with proof-based and honors-level geometry, comfortable with the logical reasoning the course demands, and who enjoy working one-on-one with students.
Our students range from those building foundational skills to those tackling honors coursework. Sessions take place in students' homes, at the library, at our Livingston, NJ office, or online. Most of our clients prefer in-person tutoring, so we'd love tutors who are open to offering it. We match families to tutors based on your preferred travel radius; you tell us how far you're willing to drive, and we work within that.
Responsibilities
- Deliver one-on-one geometry tutoring sessions tailored to each student's course, instructor's expectations, and learning goals.
- Plan lessons and prepare materials (practice sets, review guides, worked problem sets, proof-writing practice, construction and diagram exercises, exam-style questions, and structured exam-prep schedules as test dates approach).
- Build students' fluency with core geometry skills and concepts—logical reasoning and two-column and paragraph proofs, congruence and similarity, triangle relationships, circles, quadrilaterals and polygons, coordinate geometry, transformations, right-triangle trigonometry, and area, surface area, and volume—and their ability to move between different representations of the same idea (diagrammatic, symbolic, and algebraic).
- Track progress across sessions and adjust pacing, materials, and difficulty based on what's working.
- Submit a short session note after each tutoring session and flag concerns to our Director early.
- Communicate clearly and warmly with parents.
- Contribute to our team's shared practice: share what's working, ask questions, and help us keep raising the bar.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mathematics, engineering, education with a math focus, or a closely related field. Master's or PhD candidates are welcome.
- Demonstrated mastery of geometry at the level(s) you'll be tutoring—high school standard and honors Geometry, including proof-based work—with the ability to scale up to more advanced coursework such as Algebra II, Precalculus, or Trigonometry.
- Tutoring, TA, or classroom teaching experience (formal or informal) with students at the relevant grade levels.
- Working familiarity with the relevant curriculum standards (e.g., the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Mathematics / Common Core geometry strands) and the areas where students most often struggle, such as writing and structuring proofs, logical reasoning, spatial visualization, and applying the right theorem to the right problem.
- Strong communication skills and the patience to work with students who may arrive frustrated, anxious, or burned out after a rough test or assignment.
- Ability to plan individualized sessions and adapt in real time when a planned approach isn't landing, including explaining the same concept in multiple ways until it clicks.
- Availability for afternoon, evening, or weekend hours during the school year, with extra capacity around exam season and finals.
- Comfort with educational technology.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license for in-home sessions.
Preferred
- NJ teaching certification and experience teaching Honors Geometry in a classroom setting.
- Strong outcomes with geometry students at the levels you will be tutoring (e.g., grade improvement, standardized-test gains).
- Background or experience that allows you to support advanced or adjacent coursework, such as honors-level proof work, Algebra II, Precalculus, or SAT/ACT math prep (where geometry is heavily tested).
- Familiarity with the major textbooks and curricula commonly used in these courses, so you can meet students inside the framework their teacher is using.
- Real-world or professional experience (academic, industry, or research) that helps you make abstract concepts concrete—for example, connecting geometric reasoning to design, engineering, or architecture work you've done.
Benefits
Compensation & employment status
- Pay range: $40 - $50/hour, based on degree and experience
- W-2 (default): Most part-time tutors join as W-2 employees. Teacher Tutors handles payroll, taxes, and provides liability coverage during sessions.
