Role Overview

Indra is seeking Laboratory & Field Support Technicians to join its technical Field Operations team supporting the Next Generation Ticketing Managed Service.

The role provides advanced technical maintenance, diagnosis, repair and testing of electrical, electronic and electromechanical equipment across both the Indra repair laboratory and operational field locations.

Technicians will normally provide Level 2 technical support, undertaking diagnosis and repair of equipment and incidents that cannot be resolved through initial Field Service intervention. They must also be capable and willing to deploy to operational locations to provide onsite technical investigation and resolution of escalated faults.

Depending on experience, demonstrated technical competence and authorisation, technicians may undertake Level 3 technical support, including advanced fault diagnosis, complex and recurring failure investigation, root-cause analysis and support for critical technical incidents.

The role is deliberately designed to operate across both Laboratory and Field Operations. Resources may therefore be assigned between laboratory repair activities and onsite technical support according to operational demand, incident priority and service requirements.

The service operates on a 24x7 basis. The role will participate in agreed shift, out-of-hours, on-call, emergency call-out, weekend and Public/Bank Holiday coverage arrangements.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Maintenance & Repair

  • Receive and inspect equipment returned from operational locations for diagnosis or repair.
  • Carry out electrical, electronic, electromechanical and basic mechanical fault diagnosis.
  • Repair equipment and replace components, modules, cabling and associated hardware.
  • Use appropriate electrical/electronic diagnostic and test equipment to identify and resolve faults.
  • Carry out functional testing following repair and confirm equipment is suitable for return to service.
  • Diagnose faults that could not be resolved through initial Field Service intervention.
  • Support complex, intermittent and recurring fault investigation and root-cause analysis.
  • Maintain controlled handling and segregation of faulty, repaired, quarantined and serviceable equipment.
  • Support warranty, supplier return and return-material-authorisation activities.
  • Follow electrostatic discharge controls and controlled workshop procedures.

Level 2 & Level 3 Field Support

  • Deploy to operational sites when escalated technical support is required.
  • Provide onsite Level 2 technical support for faults that cannot be resolved by Field Service Engineers.
  • Carry out advanced onsite diagnosis, testing, repair, component replacement and equipment recovery.
  • Work alongside Field Service Engineers during escalated incidents to restore affected equipment and services.
  • Where appropriately experienced and authorised, provide Level 3 technical investigation and resolution for complex, critical or recurring faults.
  • Provide technical guidance to Field Service Engineers during escalated investigations.
  • Gather logs, test results, diagnostic information and technical evidence required for further specialist investigation.
  • Escalate issues requiring specialist Product, Engineering, Software, Information and Communications Technology, Cybersecurity or supplier/manufacturer support.
  • Support technical knowledge transfer across the Field Operations team.

Equipment, Assets, Stock & Chain of Custody

  • Maintain device identification and traceability throughout the repair and maintenance lifecycle.
  • Maintain chain of custody for devices and equipment while under the technician's control.
  • Ensure all equipment movements, interventions, test results and changes of status are accurately recorded.
  • Maintain the correct asset status in Maximo or the applicable asset-management system.
  • Maintain accurate diagnosis, repair, testing, maintenance and intervention records, including relevant work-order information.
  • Identify required spare parts and replacement components.
  • Support stock, spares, warranty and supplier-return activities.
  • Ensure faulty, repaired, quarantined and serviceable equipment is appropriately handled, identified, stored and segregated.

Operational Support

  • Work under the operational direction of the Field Service Coordinator and in close coordination with Field Service Engineers and the wider technical support organisation.
  • Move between Laboratory and Field activities according to service demand, incident priority and operational requirements.
  • Support planned preventative and reactive maintenance.
  • Support installation, commissioning, testing and introduction of new equipment into the Managed Service.
  • Attend Transport Operator depots, stations and other operational locations.
  • Work safely within live operational environments and comply with applicable site-access and safety requirements.
  • Maintain safe, organised and controlled laboratory and workshop areas.
  • Participate in the agreed shift, on-call, emergency call-out, weekend, Public/Bank Holiday and out-of-hours arrangements.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Practical technical experience in electronic/electrical maintenance, equipment repair, field service, workshop repair, industrial maintenance or a comparable environment.
  • Strong practical electrical/electronic fault-finding capability.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair equipment to component or module level where appropriate.
  • Competence in the use of electrical/electronic diagnostic and test equipment.
  • Ability to read technical documentation, wiring diagrams and electrical schematics.
  • Strong analytical, diagnostic and practical problem-solving capability.
  • Ability to follow technical procedures, test instructions and defined escalation processes.
  • Ability to work independently in both laboratory and field environments.
  • Good attention to detail, particularly around equipment identification, traceability and record keeping.
  • Ability to maintain accurate technical, repair, work-order and asset records.
  • Experience in an electrostatic-discharge-controlled or electronic repair environment is advantageous.
  • Full, clean driving licence valid for driving in Ireland.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to operational locations and provide onsite technical support when required.

Applications are welcomed from technicians with varying levels of experience. The technical support level and responsibilities assigned will reflect the individual's qualifications, practical experience, demonstrated technical competence and ability to work independently. Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
