What is Lead Solutions Engineering – Data Center Design & Infrastructure?

The senior data center presales professional responsible for enterprise data center design, infrastructure solution development, technical qualification and customer engagement. The role requires broad understanding of data center architecture, TIA-942 and Uptime Institute Tier III/Rated-3 concepts, active and passive infrastructure, power, cooling/HVAC and telecom infrastructure, with the ability to translate customer requirements into integrated, resilient and scalable designs. The role reports directly to the Head of Presales- SI & Manage Services and works closely with an extended Data Center design, facilities, ICT, OEM, SI, Consultant, Customer and delivery teams.

What does Lead Solutions Engineering– Data Center Design & Infrastructure do?

Key responsibilities

• Lead presales activities for enterprise data center design and infrastructure solutions from requirement discovery through conceptual design, proposal and technical handover.

• Engage enterprise customers to understand business continuity, availability, capacity, rack density, power, cooling, physical security, connectivity, expansion and operational requirements.

• Develop data center conceptual and detailed designs covering white space, raised flooring, racks, containment, structured cabling, active/passive network infrastructure, power distribution, UPS, PDU, generators and associated facilities.

• Apply and interpret relevant data center standards and frameworks, particularly TIA-942 and Uptime Institute Tier III / Rated-3 concepts, while clearly identifying customer-specific design and compliance requirements.

• Evaluate and design different cooling approaches including conventional precision cooling, in-row cooling, perimeter cooling, containment-based cooling and high-density/liquid-cooling considerations where applicable.

• Develop power infrastructure concepts including utility feeds, generators, UPS configurations, STS/ATS, PDUs, redundancy, power monitoring and distribution to IT loads.

• Design telecom and structured cabling infrastructure, including fiber and copper connectivity, pathways, racks, patching and cross-connect considerations.

• Coordinate active network, compute, storage, security and facilities requirements to ensure an integrated data center architecture.

• Prepare architecture drawings, layouts, BoQ/BoM, technical specifications, compliance matrices, RFI/RFQ/RFP/tender responses, presentations and technical proposals.

• Conduct customer workshops and site discussions; perform pre-work, data collection, assumptions, gap analysis and technical risk identification.

• Engage OEMs, distributors, OEM partners, system integrators, contractors and specialist SMEs for solution validation, design inputs, pricing support and technical clarifications.

• Support solution estimation, TCO discussions, phased expansion planning and future-ready design recommendations.

Key Deliverables

• Customer data center requirement and discovery documents.

• Conceptual and detailed data center architecture/design documentation.

• Power, cooling, rack, cabling, telecom and facilities design inputs.

• TIA-942 / Uptime Tier III or Rated-3 aligned compliance and requirement matrices, where applicable.

• BoQ/BoM, technical specifications and tender/RFP/RFI/RFQ responses.

• Customer presentations, workshops, site assessment inputs and technical clarifications.

• Integrated active/passive infrastructure design and cross-domain coordination documents.

• Reference architectures, design standards, reusable templates and technical handover packages.

Requirements

What are we looking for and what does it require to be Lead Solutions Enhgineering – Data Center Design & Infrastructure?

Experience and Educational requirements

• 6–8 years of relevant data center design, presales, consulting or solution architecture experience, preferably with enterprise customers.

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Telecom, Networking, Mechanical Engineering, Data Center Engineering or another relevant discipline.

• Strong practical understanding of data center architecture and design principles, including TIA-942 and Uptime Institute Tier III / Rated-3 concepts.

• Experience with enterprise data center projects involving active and passive components, structured cabling, racks, containment, power, UPS, PDU, generators, HVAC/precision cooling and telecom infrastructure.

• Understanding of different cooling technologies and their applicability to conventional and high-density IT environments.

• Ability to interpret power, cooling, rack-density, connectivity and availability requirements and translate them into an integrated design.

• Relevant data center certifications are preferred, such as Uptime Institute, TIA-942, CDCP/CDCS/CDCE or equivalent recognized certifications.

• Experience working with multiple OEMs, distributors, OEM partners, system integrators, facilities contractors and specialist vendors.

• Strong experience in enterprise customer engagement, technical discovery, workshops, presentations, RFI/RFQ/RFP/tender responses and solution proposals.

• Ability to coordinate multiple SMEs and domains including network, compute, storage, security, power, cooling, structured cabling and telecom.

• Strong technical documentation, presentation, communication, stakeholder management and project coordination skills.

• Customer-centric approach with strong consultative selling and requirement-generation capability.

• Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and workshop facilitation skills.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving and solution-design mindset with ability to simplify complex technical concepts for business stakeholders.

• Ability to work independently while coordinating multiple internal teams, OEMs, distributors, partners and system integrators.

• Strong ownership, responsiveness, documentation discipline and ability to manage multiple opportunities and deadlines.

• Commercial awareness and ability to connect technical architecture with customer business outcomes, scalability and total cost considerations.
