Job Summary: PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE JOB SUMMARY AND QUALIFICATIONS.
We are seeking a compassionate, dependable Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide one-on-one care for a 32-year-old man who lives at home with his family. This is a unique role for someone who is skilled in complex medical care and also enjoys the human side of the job: conversation, humor, and genuine connection.
About the Client:
The gentleman receiving care is quadriplegic and medically complex. He is bed-bound and requires skilled monitoring and hands-on care throughout the day. He is alert, intelligent, and cognitively sharp. Because of vocal cord damage he cannot get sounds out clearly, so communication relies on lip reading and a lot of patience. He is a big sports fan (ESPN, basketball, hockey, and the New York Rangers), and the right nurse will enjoy chatting sports with him. He thrives with caregivers who are patient, personable, calm, and reassuring. He must never be left alone, so reliability is essential. His parents are part of the household, and you will occasionally help them with personal care and repositioning. He does currently outmeal by mouth, but all of his liquids and meds are pushed through the feeding tube.

Duties Include:
- Feeding tube care and feedings
- Aspiration monitoring and tracheostomy site monitoring
- Skin care and pressure injury prevention, including repositioning every 2 hours
- Wound vac monitoring
- Suprapubic catheter and colostomy care
- Medication administration and monitoring
- Assistance with hygiene and personal care
- Companionship and emotional support
- Occasional assistance with the client's parents' personal care and repositioning
- Accurate documentation and prompt reporting of any change in condition
- Assist with transfers to motorized wheelchair and into van for appointments and outings
- Set up assistive devices
- Assist with stretching, suctioning, nebulizer treatments, keeping him clean
Ideal Candidate:
- LPN license in good standing in Connecticut (Required)
- Current CPR/BLS certification (Required)
- Feeding tube experience (Required)
- Experience with tracheostomy, wound vacs, ostomy or catheter care, spinal cord injury, or medically complex clients (Strongly preferred)
- Calm, confident, and consistent under pressure
- Strong communication skills and the patience to communicate through lip reading
- Reliable transportation
- Able to assist with hoyer lift transfer of a 6'2", 190 lbs man
- Ok with dogs. He has a friendly dog sometimes in the room with him.
This role is for you if you:
- Are patient and personable, and can build trust with someone who depends on you
- Believe every person deserves dignity and respect
- Stay calm and attentive during a long, steady shift
- Are able to keep your phone put away while on duty
