About Origin

Origin (previously 10xConstruction) is building general-purpose autonomous robots for US construction to tackle rising costs, safety risks and labour shortages. Our modular, multi-trade platform combines purpose-built hardware with real-time site intelligence to navigate complex environments and execute tasks with precision. Trained in high-fidelity simulation and already deployed on live sites, our robots deliver faster execution, stronger project economics and meaningful cost savings. Join India's talent-dense robotics team, with colleagues from IITs, Stanford, UCLA and other leading institutions.

About the role

As a Mechanical QA Tester, you will carry out mechanical inspection and validation testing on robot components, sub-assemblies and complete robots. You will follow test plans and procedures written by the Mechanical QA Engineer, take accurate measurements, run durability and environmental tests, and report every failure clearly. Your work helps make sure each robot can survive demanding construction-site use. You will report to the Mechanical QA Engineer and work closely with the mechanical design, manufacturing and assembly teams.

Key responsibilities

Run validation tests

  • Run structural, endurance, vibration, shock, ingress (dust and water), thermal and abuse tests by following the written procedure step by step.
  • Set up test fixtures, rigs and sensors, and mount robots or assemblies on them safely before each run.
  • Monitor tests while they run, record cycle counts, readings and observations, and stop the test if a safety or damage limit is reached.
  • Run automated test-rig sequences from a laptop or HMI using written steps.

Inspect parts and assemblies

  • Measure parts with vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators, feeler gauges and other inspection tools.
  • Check dimensions, fitment, alignment and surface condition against drawings and inspection checklists.
  • Verify fastener torque with torque wrenches, and check welds, paint or coating, and sealing.
  • Support incoming, in-process and end-of-line quality checks on the shop floor.
  • Record all measurements on inspection sheets and mark out-of-tolerance values.

Report failures

  • Log each failure or non-conformance in the test management tool with the test ID, part or unit serial number, observed result, expected result, measurements and photos or video.
  • Flag safety issues and blocking failures to the QA lead immediately.
  • Keep failed parts tagged and set aside for root-cause analysis.
  • Retest units after fixes and close the related reports.

General

  • Follow PPE, lifting, lockout and machine safety rules at all times, especially around heavy robots and moving mechanisms.
  • Keep inspection tools, fixtures and the test area organised, clean and in calibration.
  • Suggest clearer test steps or better fixtures when a procedure is confusing, slow or out of date.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Diploma or ITI in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Production, Automobile or Mechatronics. A B.E./B.Tech in these fields is also welcome.
  • 1–3 years of experience in mechanical inspection, testing, assembly, maintenance or QA. Freshers with hands-on workshop or project experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Able to read engineering drawings, including dimensions, tolerances and basic GD&T symbols.
  • Basic understanding of materials, fasteners, welding and common machining processes.
  • Comfortable working on a computer. No programming background is needed.

Skills required

Technical

  • Using vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators and feeler gauges accurately.
  • Using torque wrenches and common hand and power tools safely.
  • Spotting common mechanical defects: loose or missing fasteners, cracks, weld defects, misalignment, wear, deformation, leaks and burrs.
  • Safe handling of heavy parts with lifting equipment such as hoists, pallet jacks and slings.
  • Running test-rig software or scripts from written steps.
  • Basic computer skills: file handling, spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets) and email.

Soft skills

  • Attention to detail and patience with long, repeated tests.
  • Follows written procedures exactly and asks when something is unclear.
  • Clear, factual written reports, backed by photos and measurements.
  • Good English communication. Kannada or Hindi is helpful on the shop floor.
  • Works well with design, manufacturing and assembly teams.

Good to have

  • Exposure to robotics, automotive, off-highway, industrial machinery or other rugged equipment.
  • Experience with vibration, environmental or endurance test equipment.
  • Familiarity with CMM, profile projectors or other advanced metrology.
  • Basic knowledge of quality tools such as 5 Why, inspection plans or first-article inspection.
  • Prior use of a bug or test tracking tool.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
