About Scope Healthcare
Scope Healthcare Pty Ltd, trading as Heartscope and Sleepscope, is an Australian provider of cardiac, respiratory and sleep diagnostic services. Our medical technicians, sonographers and reception teams work alongside cardiologists, respiratory physicians and sleep physicians across a network of clinics in metropolitan Melbourne, delivering accurate and timely diagnostic testing for patients referred by their GP or specialist.
About the role
We are looking for a full-time Medical Technician to perform respiratory, sleep and cardiac diagnostic tests at our Wheelers Hill Specialist Centre and across our Melbourne clinics, keep our testing equipment calibrated and working, and prepare test data for physician reporting. You will work with patients every day and be the technical link between our clinics, our physicians and our referrers.
What you will do
• Perform lung function tests to ATS/ERS standards, including spirometry, diffusing capacity (DLCO), lung volumes and FeNO, in support of our respiratory physicians.
• Set patients up for diagnostic home-based sleep studies (polysomnography), check data quality when monitors are returned and prepare studies for physician reporting.
• Perform cardiac tests: 12-lead ECGs, and fitting, downloading and processing 24-hour and extended Holter monitors and ambulatory blood pressure monitors.
• Recognise ECG rhythm abnormalities that need urgent cardiologist review and escalate them immediately.
• Assist the cardiologist and sonographer with stress echocardiogram tests: prepare the patient, apply and monitor the ECG during exercise, record blood pressure and symptoms, and keep the emergency equipment checked and ready.
• Program and configure monitors for each patient, download and prepare the data for reporting, and keep accurate records in our patient management system.
• Maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot lung function equipment, cardiac monitors and sleep monitors across all sites, and arrange repairs with suppliers.
• Provide phone support to patients and clinic staff for monitor and equipment problems, including on-call support by roster.
• Liaise with specialist physicians, general practitioners and other referrers about bookings, urgent findings and outstanding reports.
• Help improve our testing workflows and train reception and technician staff on new equipment and procedures.
• Follow patient identification, infection control and privacy procedures, and treat every patient and family member with care and professionalism.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in science or a health-related field, or an AQF equivalent qualification with relevant work experience.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience operating respiratory, sleep and cardiac diagnostic equipment in a clinical setting.
• Working knowledge of lung function testing, sleep study set-up and ECG rhythm recognition.
• Experience with patient management and diagnostic software such as HealthTrack, Noxturnal, SentrySuite, Sentinel or Cardioscan is highly regarded.
• Clear, confident communication with patients, physicians and referrers, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
• High attention to detail and a commitment to patient safety and confidentiality.
• Current CPR certificate, National Police Check and Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain them before starting.
• Willingness to work across our Melbourne clinics as rostered.
Benefits
• Permanent full-time role with an established and growing specialist diagnostics group.
• Base salary of $80,000 to $90,000 depending on experience, plus 12% superannuation.
• Work directly with respiratory physicians, sleep physicians and cardiologists across three testing streams.
• Training on all equipment and software, and support to keep your CPR and professional development current.
