The posting

Our Saskatchewan Distribution group is expanding to support a multi-year service agreement, with the potential to run through 2032, and we are currently looking to add Powerline Technicians (PLT) and PLT Foreman / Foreperson to our team, based in Unity, SK.

Reporting to the Operations Leader or Foreman, these positions lead the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems, working with cables, conduits, and associated equipment like transformers and splicing tools. In this position you will install, troubleshoot, and repair power lines, often working at heights or in confined spaces such as trenches.

Please Note: This position works a Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM schedule (Monday – Thursday, 12 hours / day when daylight allows). Candidates must reside locally in Saskatchewan or be willing to relocate on their own. We also have a PPE and FR Clothing program for our employees to ensure you have what you need to work safely at all times.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the construction of new overhead and underground power line facilities and modifications or extensions of existing facilities
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to apprentices and other crew members, including conducting performance reviews as needed
  • Perform live-line Work, which may include rubber glove and hot-stick methods
  • Erect and maintain steel, wood or concrete poles, towers and guy wires
  • Splice, solder and insulate conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution networks
  • Open and close switches and install grounding devices to lines and equipment
  • Perform troubleshooting, fault locating, and repairs on distribution systems
  • Operate and maintain specialized tools and equipment such as cable pulling rigs, fault locators, splicing kits, and test instruments
  • Conduct switching and grounding of high-voltage equipment in accordance with utility safety standards and work procedures
  • Install and repair underground facilities such as cable, transformers, potheads and pedestals
  • Install pole hardware and auxiliary equipment such as transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses and insulators, using hand tools and mechanical devices
  • Cover energized lines with rubber goods to facilitate safe handling of high-voltage lines without interrupting service
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, single-line diagrams, and underground cable maps
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, utility codes, and company standards
  • Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other crew members to complete projects efficiently
  • Respond to emergency outages and perform restoration work in a timely manner
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and test results
  • Be available to handle urgent or emergency situations, and to restore or assist in restoring electrical service following outages during and after normal working hours including weekdays, weekends and statutory holidays

Requirements

  • Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certification
  • Proven experience with overhead and underground distribution work between 14.4kV - 25kV
  • Strong knowledge of electrical theory, powerline construction practices, and safety procedures
  • Proficient in the use of locating, splicing, and testing equipment
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work on-call and respond to emergency situations when required
  • Reside locally within Saskatchewan
