The posting

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead structural steel and precast construction projects throughout Southeastern Wisconsin.

The ideal candidate has direct experience working for a structural steel contractor, steel fabricator, or specialty steel erection company and understands the coordination required between engineering, detailing, fabrication, transportation, crane operations, field crews, and general contractors.

Experience with precast concrete erection, miscellaneous metals, and ornamental iron is highly valued. This position will take ownership of projects from initial kickoff through final closeout, with responsibility for scheduling, budgeting, procurement, fabrication coordination, erection logistics, subcontractor management, quality, safety, and overall project performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage structural steel and precast construction projects from project kickoff through completion, turnover, and final closeout.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, procurement plans, manpower forecasts, fabrication schedules, and equipment requirements.
  • Coordinate closely with Superintendents, field crews, detailers, fabricators, subcontractors, suppliers, crane operators, and general contractors.
  • Review structural drawings, shop drawings, erection drawings, specifications, contracts, and other project documents.
  • Coordinate engineering, detailing, fabrication, delivery, and field erection activities to ensure projects remain on schedule.
  • Monitor project financial performance, including budgets, committed costs, labor productivity, forecasting, billing, change orders, and profitability.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, pay applications, and other project documentation.
  • Coordinate fabrication schedules, material releases, transportation, delivery sequencing, crane requirements, and site logistics.
  • Ensure drawings, materials, equipment, and manpower are available when required for field erection.
  • Identify and resolve fabrication, detailing, delivery, field, scheduling, and coordination issues before they impact project performance.
  • Coordinate erection sequencing with field leadership, crane operators, general contractors, and other trades.
  • Conduct and participate in project meetings and provide regular updates to owners, engineers, general contractors, and company leadership.
  • Monitor subcontractor and supplier performance and address issues affecting cost, schedule, quality, or safety.
  • Coordinate inspections, punch-list completion, warranty requirements, turnover, and final closeout documentation.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with owners, engineers, fabricators, suppliers, subcontractors, general contractors, and other project stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Project Management experience in structural steel construction.
  • Required: Commercial or industrial structural steel erection experience.
  • Required: Experience working for a structural steel contractor, steel fabricator, or specialty steel erection company.
  • Experience with precast concrete erection, miscellaneous metals, or ornamental iron strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, detailing, erection sequencing, procurement, transportation, crane operations, and site logistics.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, erection drawings, specifications, contracts, and construction documents.
  • Experience managing project budgets, forecasting, billing, change orders, procurement, subcontractors, and cost control.
  • Strong understanding of the coordination required between engineering, detailing, fabrication, transportation, crane operations, and field erection.
  • Experience working with general contractors, structural engineers, fabricators, erectors, and field personnel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while coordinating effectively across office, fabrication, and field operations.
  • Strong understanding of structural steel project risks, including fabrication schedules, material availability, delivery constraints, crane access, and erection sequencing.
  • Candidates located in or able to reliably commute to Milwaukee and Southeastern Wisconsin are preferred.
  • General commercial construction project management experience without direct structural steel project experience does not meet the requirements for this position.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
  • Professional development and continuing education opportunities.
  • Opportunity to lead complex structural steel and precast construction projects.
  • Stable workload with long-term career growth opportunities.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented work environment.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
