We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Python Developer with strong backend engineering expertise to design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance applications. The role requires deep experience in Python, API development, database optimisation, cloud-native technologies, concurrency, and distributed systems.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about building robust backend platforms and will play a key role in developing reliable services that support next-generation, AI-driven products.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Python 3.x.
  • Build high-performance RESTful APIs using FastAPI and/or Flask.
  • Design scalable database schemas and optimise database performance.
  • Develop efficient data-access layers using SQLAlchemy ORM, including session management and transaction handling.
  • Build thread-safe, concurrent, asynchronous, and high-throughput backend applications.
  • Implement robust microservices and distributed backend architectures.
  • Containerise applications using Docker and deploy and manage workloads on Kubernetes.
  • Deploy and operate backend applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Develop and maintain API specifications and documentation using OpenAPI and Swagger.
  • Optimise application performance, scalability, reliability, security, and resource utilisation.
  • Identify and resolve complex production issues through debugging and root-cause analysis.
  • Write clean, reusable, testable, and maintainable code following established engineering practices.
  • Develop unit and integration tests and participate in peer code reviews.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, DevOps, QA, and other stakeholders to deliver features end-to-end.
  • Contribute to technical architecture discussions, design reviews, documentation, and engineering standards.
  • Support CI/CD, deployment, monitoring, logging, and production-release activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system architecture, automation, performance, and engineering efficiency.
  • Contribute to backend solutions supporting AI/ML-enabled applications where required.

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in Python backend development, with strong experience building production-grade systems.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Python 3.x and backend software engineering.
  • Extensive experience with FastAPI and/or Flask.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with SQLAlchemy ORM, session management, database transactions, and data-access patterns.
  • Strong understanding of multithreading, concurrency, asynchronous programming, and thread-safe application development.
  • Proven experience with PostgreSQL and/or MySQL, including database design, indexing, query optimisation, and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.
  • Experience deploying and managing applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs, OpenAPI, and Swagger.
  • Good knowledge of microservices architecture, distributed systems, scalability, and high-availability application design.
  • Experience with Git, code reviews, unit testing, and modern software development practices.
  • Exposure to Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar caching and messaging technologies is an advantage.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices is preferred.
  • Experience building or integrating AI/ML-enabled applications is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of monitoring, logging, observability, and application performance optimisation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on scalable and reliable solutions.
  • Ability to independently own complex technical initiatives in a fast-paced product environment.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and cross-functional engineering environments.
