The posting

Booking Holdings Romania is a Center of Excellence based in Bucharest, Romania and was created to support the increasing business demands of the Booking Holdings Brands. The Center of Excellence provides access to specialized and highly skilled talent, leading industry best practices, and collaboration opportunities across all of our Brands.

Role description

The Data Analytics Engineer I operates as a developing contributor on data pipelines and data models of low to moderate complexity, supporting the cross-brand data, reporting and analytics needs of Booking Holdings. This role contributes to clearly scoped deliverables — from ingestion, through transformation, to enablement of reporting — under the guidance and framework set by senior peers and the Solutions Architect.

Success in this role means consistent, reliable delivery on assigned tasks and components for the business areas served by the team (such as Finance, FP&A, Treasury, Procurement, Market Intelligence and others), while building a strong foundation in the team's tooling (Snowflake, dbt, Dagster, Python, AWS, Terraform) and growing technical judgement under close guidance from Senior Engineers and the Solutions Architect.

This role provides a hybrid way of working with an onsite presence of 2 days/week.

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Pipeline Development: Assists in building and maintaining data ingestion, transformation and orchestration pipelines on Snowflake, dbt and Dagster (or Airflow / equivalent), following established team standards and working under the guidance of senior engineers to deliver assigned components on time and to agreed quality.
  • Data Modeling on Snowflake: Implements well-defined, low to moderate complexity dimensional data models on Snowflake based on requirements provided by Business Analysts and Product, closely following team conventions for naming, layering and documentation; exposure to other modeling approaches (e.g. Data Vault) is a plus.
  • Python for Data Analytics Engineering: Writes clean, testable Python — including basic object-oriented code — for Dagster assets and general Data Analytics Engineering tasks, with support and code review from senior peers. - is considered a plus
  • Source Integration: Helps integrate data from a variety of sources (ERPs, transactional systems, SaaS tools, flat files, spreadsheets, etc.), developing familiarity with the relevant business semantics.
  • Quality, Testing & Monitoring: Writes basic tests (dbt tests, custom checks) and helps monitor data quality for the pipelines they contribute to, escalating anomalies to senior peers for investigation.
  • Operational Excellence (Awareness Level): Learns to work within the team's CI/CD, Git, Docker and Terraform setup, contributing to DataOps practices under the direction of senior peers.
  • Collaboration: Works closely with other Data Analytics Engineers, the Reporting team, Business Analysts and the Product Manager, asking questions and escalating ambiguity early to translate requirements into technical tasks.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Documents the tasks, models and pipelines they contribute to, and actively participates in code reviews and knowledge sessions to accelerate their learning.

Role Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree & 1-3 years of relevant experience
  • Foundational understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling.
  • Basic understanding of cloud data warehousing, ideally on Snowflake.
  • Awareness of data warehousing methodologies (Kimball); Data Vault is a nice to have (*).
  • Awareness of business domains involving data and reporting (such as Finance, FP&A, Treasury, Procurement, Market Intelligence or comparable areas); transferable experience from other domains or academic / internship projects is also valued.
  • Basic awareness of data privacy and security concepts (GDPR/PII).
  • Nice to have (*): Awareness of Risk & Control / SOX concepts and how they apply to data and reporting.
  • Good working SQL skills on Snowflake or a comparable cloud warehouse — including joins, aggregations and window functions; awareness of performance basics.
  • Some hands-on or academic exposure to Snowflake (or a comparable cloud warehouse), with willingness to deepen this on the job.
  • Familiarity with dbt (models, tests, documentation), or a strong willingness to learn it quickly.
  • Working knowledge of Python, including basic object-oriented Python — used for Dagster assets and Data Analytics Engineering tasks.
  • Awareness of Dagster, Airflow or another modern orchestrator (hands-on exposure is a plus (*)).
  • Basic knowledge of Git; awareness of CI/CD pipelines.
  • Awareness of AWS services for data workloads (e.g. S3); exposure to Lambda or Glue is a plus (*).
  • Terraform and infrastructure-as-code exposure is a plus (*).
  • Docker and containerized workflows exposure is a plus (*).
  • Awareness of BI / Dashboard concepts and semantic layers — sufficient to collaborate with the Reporting team.
  • Work experience with Streamlit (or similar lightweight data app frameworks) is a plus (*).
  • Hands-on experience using AI / LLM-based tools to accelerate engineering work — code generation, code review, debugging, documentation, data exploration — is a plus (*).
  • Delivers well-defined tasks and components with quality, under the close guidance of senior peers.
  • Follows technical sub-tasks defined with Product / BAs and senior peers, asking clarifying questions where needed.
  • Communicates progress, questions and blockers clearly and proactively.
  • Demonstrates strong curiosity and a willingness to learn about the broader data platform and the business domains served.
  • Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written).

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
