Location: Warri, Delta State, Nigeria

Experience in developing or designing Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)

Role Summary

The Quality Engineer is responsible for implementing and monitoring the quality management system on pipeline projects for an oil and gas services company. The role ensures that all pipeline construction, installation, testing, and commissioning activities comply with project specifications, industry codes/standards, and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Project Quality Plans, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), procedures, and checklists for pipeline projects in line with ISO 9001 and relevant ASME/API standards.
  • Plan and execute quality control activities on pipeline construction and installation: material receiving inspections, welding inspections, coating/painting checks, fit‑up and dimensional checks, hydrotesting, pigging, reinstatement, and final walk‑through.
  • Review and verify Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and welder qualifications; ensure that all welding works are carried out in accordance with approved WPS.
  • Coordinate NDT activities with approved vendors and review/approve NDT procedures and reports.
  • Ensure all construction and testing activities comply with applicable codes and standards and client specifications.
  • Monitor contractors' and subcontractors' quality performance; carry out surveillance, spot checks and formal quality audits on site.
  • Identify, document and manage non‑conformances (NCRs); lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain proper quality documentation and records, including ITPs, checklists, calibration certificates, test reports, welding/NDT records, WPS files, and as‑built dossiers.
  • Participate in pre‑inspection meetings (PIM), construction review meetings, punch list walk‑downs, and mechanical completion/handover processes.
  • Liaise with client representatives, third‑party inspectors and internal project teams (engineering, construction, HSE) on quality‑related matters.
  • Support continuous improvement of quality processes and promote a strong quality culture on project sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years' proven experience in Quality/QAQC roles on pipeline projects within the oil and gas servicing or EPC/EPCI environment.
  • Strong knowledge of pipeline construction/installation methods, welding, NDT, coating, hydrotesting and pre‑commissioning activities.
  • Solid understanding of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), and welder qualification records, with hands‑on experience reviewing and applying them on projects; prior involvement in WPS/PQR development is an advantage.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills; able to interface effectively with clients, contractors and site teams.
  • Relevant professional certifications in QA/QC, welding inspection or related fields will be an added advantage

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
