Building a sustainable future, together.

At WSP, we design the future of our communities. As one of the world’s leading engineering and professional services firms, we bring together expertise across transport and infrastructure, buildings, energy, environment, water and advisory. Across Central Europe, we combine local knowledge with international reach to deliver projects that create a positive, lasting impact for clients, communities and the environment.

Our Engineering Services team in Milan delivers process engineering support across studies, proposals, conceptual and detailed design. We are now looking for a Junior Process Engineer to help develop process systems and equipment design while building their technical skills alongside experienced engineers.

The opportunity

We are looking for a Junior Process Engineer to join our Engineering Services team in Milan. In this role, you will support the delivery of process engineering assignments, from data analysis, calculations and simulations to studies, designs and project deliverables, with guidance from more senior engineers.

You will work closely with senior process engineers, project and task managers and colleagues from other technical disciplines, contributing to the conceptual and detailed design of process systems and equipment. The exact scope of the role can be adapted depending on the successful candidate’s experience, seniority and technical background.

How you will make an impact

Your work will support our Engineering Services team and its process engineering projects, helping us deliver high-quality outcomes for our clients and communities.

  • Engineering assignments: Carry out routine aspects and defined portions of engineering assignments, applying basic engineering principles, prescribed methods and established procedures, with operational supervision and technical guidance from senior engineers.
  • Data, calculations and analysis: Compile, verify and correlate data on process engineering problems and perform calculations, simulations and basic preliminary analyses using engineering software, with accuracy and completeness.
  • Design and deliverables: Support conceptual designs, studies, reports and proposals, contribute to the detailed development of established design concepts for process systems and equipment, and help prepare process deliverables within scope, schedule and budget.
  • Technical documentation and project controls: Contribute to material requisitions, specifications and related technical documents, and help develop and verify project controls documents and status reports.
  • Coordination and collaboration: Coordinate assigned work with technical colleagues and other disciplines as directed. Where appropriate, provide technical direction to colleagues on specific design support tasks and assign and check the work of less experienced team members.

The team around you

You will be part of our Engineering Services team in Milan, working across process engineering assignments and alongside other engineering disciplines, and supported by WSP’s wider technical and professional network.

  • The culture: A supportive team where senior engineers provide guidance and coaching and feedback are part of everyday work.
  • The projects: Process systems and equipment design, from studies, proposals and conceptual design through to detailed design deliverables.
  • The opportunity: Hands-on learning on real projects, the chance to develop your consultancy and technical writing skills, and to build your own network of technical peers, project managers and task managers across the business unit.

What you will bring to the role

We focus on the essential qualifications, skills and experience needed for success, while welcoming different technical backgrounds and career paths.

  • Full professional proficiency in English and Italian.
  • Degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 2 years of professional experience.
  • Basic knowledge of water chemistry and water treatment processes; process engineering fundamentals including systems calculations, equipment, application of methods, process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), plant layout and materials; and relevant industry and regulatory codes, standards and design or layout criteria for the process discipline.
  • Ability to use engineering software for calculations, simulations and preliminary analyses, and to work accurately to prescribed analysis, design and computational methods.
  • Clear written communication with the motivation to develop technical writing skills; ability to manage your own workload and multiple commitments, follow through and raise issues early on scope, schedule or budget; openness to coaching and feedback; a flexible, can-do approach; safe working practices in the office and on site; and an interest in building your network across the business.

We do not expect you to know everything. We are looking for curiosity, motivation and willingness to learn. From day one, you will contribute to real projects, receive guidance from experienced professionals and progressively build your technical confidence

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
