The posting

As an Environment Design & Build Lead, you will be responsible for designing and building realistic environments within our facility. Each room will represent a real-life setting, such as kitchens, bedrooms, living rooms, laundry areas, retail shelves, workshops, and small offices.

These environments should feel like real, lived-in spaces—not showroom displays. You will create scenes with realistic clutter, varied lighting, worn surfaces, functional appliances, and everyday objects.

You will own the process from an empty floor plate through design, construction, and final setup, and will continue maintaining and refreshing the environments as the facility evolves.

What you'll do

Design

- Translate the data team's requirements into detailed scene plans, including room types, quantities, and variations.

- Create layouts, 3D models, material specifications, and prop schedules for each room.

- Design variations across rooms to represent different real-world environments, including differences in layout, counter height, finishes, lighting, furniture, and clutter.

- Design environments with robots and cameras in mind, including clear floor paths, appropriate reach heights, non-reflective surfaces, controlled lighting, and proper cable routing.

- Develop modular environments that can be easily reconfigured, re-dressed, or rebuilt within days rather than weeks. Build

- Source and manage contractors, carpenters, electricians, and suppliers.

- Own the fit-out budget, Bill of Quantities (BoQ), procurement, and construction schedule.

- Supervise construction on-site and ensure quality standards are met for every room.

- Procure furniture, appliances, and props, including second-hand items when appropriate to create realistic, lived-in environments.

- Ensure all construction work meets applicable building, electrical, fire safety, and workplace safety requirements.

Run & Refresh

- Maintain a complete catalogue of scenes, props, layouts, and their respective versions.

- Rotate props, layouts, and lighting according to a planned schedule to maintain data diversity.

- Respond quickly to wear, damage, and maintenance issues to minimize disruption to data collection operations.

- Work closely with the Data Operations and Hardware teams to continuously improve environments based on operational feedback.

- Build and lead a small team of set dressers and technicians as the facility scales.

What You Bring

- 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following:

- Film or TV production design and set construction

- Interior design and build

- Exhibition or showroom construction

- Themed environment or retail fit-out

- Proven experience delivering multiple spaces simultaneously, within budget and under tight deadlines.

- A portfolio demonstrating completed projects, including photos of spaces you have designed or led.

- Strong hands-on design skills using SketchUp, AutoCAD, or similar tools*, with the ability to produce working drawings that contractors can execute.

- A strong network of contractors, vendors, and suppliers in Greater Jakarta*, with experience negotiating and managing them directly.

- Experience preparing a Bill of Quantities (BoQ)* and managing project costs against the approved budget.

- A strong eye for realism and detail, with the ability to identify and correct elements that make an environment feel staged or artificial.

- Comfortable working on-site and actively supervising construction and installation activities.

- Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia* and comfortable communicating in English with a global team.

Nice to have:

- Experience building sets for multi-camera productions or environments where camera angles and lighting significantly influence the design.

- Exposure to robotics, motion capture, simulation, or warehouse automation environments.

- Experience recreating or adapting interior environments from other countries.

- Knowledge of electrical systems, lighting, or basic mechanical systems.

- Experience hiring, managing, and leading a crew of 10+ people*.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
