LEAD FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN - CHILLERS

WORK ON NEXT-GEN AI DATA CENTER COOLING SYSTEMS

XNRGY Climate Systems designs and manufactures advanced cooling systems for data centers and other mission-critical environments. Our Field Operations team commissions oil-free centrifugal chillers, computer room air handlers (CRAHs), and fan arrays at customer sites across North America.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Lead field commissioning and service work for XNRGY’s advanced cooling systems. You’ll represent XNRGY at customer sites, lead assigned crews, and take responsibility for safe, high-quality startup, testing, troubleshooting, and technical documentation.

This is a travel-intensive role working at active construction sites and live data centers. Assignments may involve nights, weekends, shutdowns, and extended periods on site.

TRAVEL & LOCATION

  • Regional role with assignments across North America
  • Travel rotations follow either two weeks in the field / one week home or three weeks in the field / one week home
  • Flights are used instead of long drives, and private accommodations are provided
  • The work schedule is published in advance
  • Field assignments may include active construction sites and live data centers

WHY JOIN

  • Work hands-on with oil-free centrifugal chillers, variable frequency drives, two-tier controls, CRAHs, and fan arrays
  • Help establish commissioning procedures, field standards, and XNRGY’s technician certification program
  • Receive company-funded role-related trade, commissioning, controls, product, and safety training
  • Use company-provided tools, calibrated instruments, personal protective equipment, laptop, mobile device, and vehicle
  • Build toward field subject matter expert, Advanced Trainer, Commissioning Engineer, or Manager of Field Operations roles
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and retirement provisions

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Lead Commissioning: Lead delivery and site acceptance, pre-functional verification, startup, and performance testing for chillers, CRAH units, and fan arrays
  • Coordinate Site Work: Follow commissioning plans and coordinate with third-party commissioning authorities and other site teams
  • Verify Readiness and Safety: Confirm installation, site conditions, and required services before energizing equipment; stop and escalate unsafe or unready conditions
  • Troubleshoot Equipment: Diagnose faults using alarms, trends, and systematic troubleshooting; safely isolate, recover, shut down, and restart equipment
  • Service Chillers: Perform refrigerant-side work, including evacuation, charging, leak detection, and recovery, in accordance with local requirements
  • Diagnose Controls and Drives: Work across chiller PLCs and compressor controllers; verify released software and firmware; configure network settings; and troubleshoot BAS integration over BACnet, Modbus, and EtherNet/IP
  • Interpret System Behavior: Review sequences of operation, diagnose variable frequency drive faults, and assess compressor behavior, including surge and capacity limits
  • Document Work: Complete commissioning records and field reports with readings, photographs, signatures, unit and activity details, deficiencies, and issue tracking
  • Lead and Mentor: Assign crew work, maintain quality standards, supervise service partners, and mentor technicians
  • Manage Scope: Identify work outside the sold scope before performing it and report it for pricing
  • Represent XNRGY: Communicate professionally with customers, general contractors, commissioning authorities, and other trades

WHAT YOU BRING

  • At least 10 years of commercial or industrial chiller experience, including at least five years working directly with centrifugal machines
  • A master refrigeration mechanic qualification and a recognized trade qualification, such as NITC STAR HVACR Mastery, 313A, a provincial equivalent, Red Seal endorsement, or demonstrably equivalent training
  • Direct experience performing chiller startups and commissioning, with the ability to explain equipment commissioned, faults encountered, and troubleshooting decisions
  • Controls, automation, and networking experience sufficient to commission and troubleshoot chiller systems and BAS integration without an on-site controls specialist
  • Experience working under a third-party commissioning authority on mission-critical or comparable projects, alongside general contractors and other trades
  • EPA Section 608 Universal certification in the United States, or the equivalent required in the jurisdiction of work
  • Current NFPA 70E or CSA Z462 qualification; OSHA 10- or 30-hour Construction training or Canadian equivalent; and a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record
  • Experience producing complete, technically defensible field documentation and mentoring or developing junior technicians
  • Ability to work independently, meet construction schedules, stay composed under pressure, and escalate unfamiliar issues early
  • Commissioning credentials, RSES refrigeration certifications, manufacturer controls or networking certifications, or a second electrical trade qualification are an asset

COMP & PERKS

  • Competitive compensation and benefits
  • Company-funded role-related training and certification; training time is paid and training periods count toward the rotation
  • Company-provided tools, calibrated instruments, personal protective equipment, laptop, mobile device, and vehicle
  • Private accommodations during travel assignments
  • Published travel rotations of two weeks on / one week off or three weeks on / one week off

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
