Zip Co Limited median: 11 days open

The posting

  • Help scale a high-accountability controllership function that protects recurring close and reporting while enabling Zip’s evolving funding model.
  • Bring deep technical accounting and controllership experience across funding structures, SPVs, securitization, internal controls and complex financial reporting.
  • Remote-first opportunity for US-based employees with the option to work in-person out of our Manhattan office

Start your adventure with Zip

As Assistant Controller, you will be a senior individual contributor within US Accounting & Control, with primary ownership of funding and special-purpose-vehicle (SPV) accounting and Assistant Controller-level responsibilities across the broader controllership agenda. You will lead the accounting operationalization of securitizations and other funding structures from Day 1 transaction execution through recurring close, reporting, reconciliations and control ownership, while helping protect the accuracy and timeliness of Zip’s recurring financial reporting.

You will work closely with Treasury, Legal, Finance Systems, Credit Risk, Audit and other US and Global Finance partners. The role also provides accounting oversight and review of treasury, payroll and compensation-related accounting activities and acts as a key accounting lead for business change, control maturity and process improvement as Zip’s US funding and finance operations continue to scale.

Interesting problems you’ll get to solve

  • Own end-to-end accounting for funding structures and SPV legal entities, including legal-entity and chart-of-accounts design, journal-entry design, recurring close, reconciliations and financial statement support.
  • Lead the accounting workstream for new securitizations and funding transactions, including Day 1 transaction execution, operational readiness, post-close stabilization and transition into sustainable recurring processes.
  • Own recurring trustee, investor and lender reporting support, ensuring accounting outputs, reconciliations and reporting requirements are complete, accurate and delivered on time.
  • Design, document and operate effective controls for funding, SPV and related accounting processes; identify control gaps, drive remediation and support SOX, internal audit and external audit requirements.
  • Protect the quality and timeliness of the US month-end close by reviewing complex accounting activity, balance-sheet substantiation, journal entries, fluxes and issues through resolution.
  • Support and deliver key components of the US GAAP audited financial statement process, including financial statement and disclosure preparation, audit support schedules, technical accounting documentation and timely resolution of external audit requests.
  • Oversee and review treasury, payroll and compensation-related accounting activities, including routine monthly close processes, reconciliations and associated controls.
  • Coordinate with Treasury, Legal, Finance Systems, Credit Risk, Banking/Funding teams and Audit to manage change, incidents, control efficacy and cross-functional reporting requirements.
  • Drive process standardization, documentation and automation opportunities across controllership, while maintaining accountable ownership of processes as systems and data capabilities mature.
  • Serve as a senior accounting subject-matter expert on new products, business changes and complex transactions, translating accounting requirements into scalable operating processes and clear recommendations to support stakeholder decisions.

What you’ll bring to the team

  • 7+ years of progressive Accounting or Finance experience, including controllership, audit, complex month-end close, financial reporting and balance-sheet ownership.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and excellent command of accounting and financial principles, including how business decisions and complex transactions impact the financial statements; IFRS knowledge is beneficial.
  • CPA or CA qualified; Big 4 audit experience is an advantage.
  • Hands-on experience with structured finance, securitization, SPVs, funding facilities or similar legal-entity accounting; experience in financial services, fintech, private credit or capital markets is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, documenting and operating internal controls, including SOX environments, audit coordination and remediation of process or control gaps.
  • Proven ability to translate transaction terms and business requirements into accounting conclusions, journal-entry logic, chart-of-accounts design, reconciliations, reporting and sustainable close processes.
  • Proven ability to lead complex cross-functional work through strong coaching, prioritization and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with and influence stakeholders at multiple management levels, manage expectations and drive issues to resolution.
  • Strong analytical skills and superior attention to detail, supported by intermediate-to-advanced Excel skills, strong systems aptitude and experience improving accounting processes through better data, reconciliations, workflow design and automation.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and limited precedent, with the independence and judgment to adapt in a fast-moving environment; deadline-driven and able to manage multiple competing priorities while maintaining a view of the big picture.
  • Clear alignment with Zip’s core values

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
