The posting

Job description

Zodia Markets is a regulated institutional digital-asset brokerage backed by SC Ventures (the innovation and ventures arm of Standard Chartered, our majority shareholder). We provide institutional clients with stablecoin FX execution, liquidity and near-instant cross-border settlement across multiple stablecoins and 20+ fiat currencies.

Having found strong product-market fit for corporate stablecoin payments, we are now scaling that into our core focus area, underpinned by a scalable technology platform built to run it at institutional scale. As financial markets move toward always-on, programmable infrastructure, we believe institutions should be able to move capital globally with the same speed and ease as information — and we are building the regulated infrastructure to make that possible.

Today we serve banks, asset managers, hedge funds, payment providers, corporates and digital-asset institutions globally — institutional counterparties only, never retail. The team is 60 people: a mid-sized regulated financial institution, not an early-stage startup.

Role summary

This role focuses on designing and building high-performance JVM-based applications for a complex digital asset trading platform. You will work within a service-oriented architecture, ensuring low latency, high availability, and data integrity.

You will collaborate closely with business stakeholders and the DevOps team to deliver robust solutions using modern messaging and database technologies. The ideal candidate is a strong Java developer who is comfortable working with other JVM languages (Groovy/Kotlin).

Job Responsibilities

Application Development & Architecture

  • Core Development: Design, build, and maintain scalable JVM-based applications to support trading and settlement flows.
  • Service Architecture: Develop and optimize microservices/services within a distributed architecture, ensuring modularity and scalability.
  • API Design: Implement and maintain robust RESTful APIs and WebSockets for real-time data streaming and client connectivity.
  • Polyglot Programming: Utilize Groovy and Kotlin where appropriate to enhance developer productivity and testing frameworks.

Data & Messaging

  • Data Persistence: Design and manage data schemas across both SQL and NoSQL databases, ensuring data consistency and performance.
  • Event Streaming: Implement high-throughput messaging systems using Kafka for event-driven architecture and Redis for caching and session management.

Operational Excellence (DevOps/SRE)

  • CI/CD Integration: Collaborate on GitLab pipelines to ensure smooth build and deployment processes.
  • Infrastructure Awareness: Write code that is optimized for cloud environments, specifically AWS (EKS, RDS, EC2, ElastiCache, S3).
  • Observability: Implement structured logging and monitoring to facilitate rapid troubleshooting and system health checks.

Job benefits

Technical Requirements (Essential)

  • JVM Mastery: Deep expertise in Java and the JVM ecosystem.
  • Architecture: Proven experience with Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) or Microservices.
  • Database Skills: Strong proficiency in both SQL and NoSQL database design and optimization.
  • Connectivity: Extensive experience with REST APIs and WebSockets.
  • Messaging: specific experience with Kafka and Redis.
  • Additional Languages: Proficiency or willingness to work with Groovy and Kotlin.

Desirable Skills

  • Container Orchestration: Experience deploying to and debugging applications in Kubernetes (specifically AWS EKS).
  • Cloud Native: Familiarity with AWS services including S3, EC2, and RDS.
  • Tooling: Experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
  • Monitoring: Experience implementing metrics and logging (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).

General Requirement

  • Industry: Experience in FinTech, Trading, or regulated environments is a strong advantage.

Essential Skills

  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve complex concurrency and data consistency problems.
  • Communication: Ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Agility: Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with evolving requirements.
  • Team Player: specific ability to collaborate with DevOps and frontend teams to deliver end-to-end features.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
