Forward Deployed Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a high-ownership engineering role at an early-stage healthtech startup building an AI-powered platform that streamlines prior authorization and payer compliance for surgical and procedural specialties. You will sit at the intersection of the founding team and clients, translating complex healthcare workflows into clean, reliable technical integrations that directly shape how provider practices operate.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Build and maintain integrations with provider practices and insurance systems using APIs, web scrapers, and RPA tooling where direct APIs are unavailable.

- Join client discovery sessions alongside founders to map real-world workflows and translate them into clear technical requirements.

- Ship custom integrations quickly and iterate based on hands-on feedback from live deployments.

- Contribute to core product development when integration work is not the primary bottleneck.

- Develop deep working knowledge of the US provider and payer landscape over time.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

- 2 to 5 years of full-stack engineering experience building and shipping features in production.

- Startup background with demonstrated experience owning features or small products end-to-end, from discovery through delivery.

- Solid proficiency in Python and FastAPI (or equivalent backend frameworks) and React with TypeScript (or equivalent frontend technologies).

- Proven experience integrating with third-party APIs.

- Active daily use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor, with shipped production work to show for it.

- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical tradeoffs clearly to non-technical clients.

- Comfortable attending in-person team and client meetings, with availability for occasional travel.

- Nice to have: experience building web scrapers or RPA solutions, AWS or GCP infrastructure knowledge, prior US healthcare or provider/payer systems experience, or production LLM application development.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Salary range: $150,000 to $230,000 USD annually. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

LOCATION

Hybrid, based in New York City, NY. In-person attendance is expected for team and client meetings, with some travel required.
