JOB SUMMARY:

Aggregate Mining Engineer Intern will gain hands-on experience in limestone quarry operations. This internship provides exposure to the full mining cycle, including mine planning, drilling and blasting, aggregate processing, quality control, environmental stewardship, and operational improvement initiatives. This internship is designed to provide meaningful, project-based learning experiences while developing future engineering talent for the mining and aggregates industry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support daily quarry operations at Dolese mining facilities.
  • Assist with mine planning activities, production analysis, and reserve management.
  • Participate in drilling and blasting evaluations, including data collection and performance reviews.
  • Analyze production metrics and develop recommendations to improve operational efficiency and productivity.
  • Assist with aggregate inventory tracking and material movement reporting.
  • Support quality control initiatives through aggregate sampling, testing, and analysis.
  • Participate in safety inspections, audits, and risk-reduction projects.
  • Evaluate equipment utilization, haul road conditions, cycle times, and operating efficiencies.
  • Assist with surveying, mapping, and drone-based data collection efforts where applicable.
  • Support environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and engineering recommendations for operations leadership.
  • Collaborate with quarry operations, maintenance, quality control, environmental, and safety teams on continuous improvement projects.
  • Complete an assigned internship project and present findings to company leadership at the conclusion of the internship.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience

  • Candidate must be working towards a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Engineering or Construction Management
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Carlson Mining, Vulcan, or similar mining software preferred
  • Previous internship, construction, industrial, or mining experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong engineering and technical skills
  • Ability to create and understand complex Excel spreadsheet
  • Ability to work independently with some guidance
  • Excellent communication, observation, and reading comprehension skills
  • Ability to engage all levels of the organization
  • Ability to multi-task and handle projects under time constraints
  • Ability to understand and apply analytical and statistics tools
  • Results-oriented with strong process and execution skills
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, nights, and weekends
  • Must have the ability to work outside for extended periods of time
  • Currently possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Lift objects repeatedly of various dimensions and up to 50 lbs. of weight
  • Ability to repeatedly climb stairs and climb ladders
  • Ability to repeatedly balance, bend from the trunk, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects
  • Ability to tolerate working in all environmental temperatures and weather conditions
  • Ability to repeatedly reach, squat, and tolerate prolonged standing/walking/sitting
  • Ability to repeatedly walk on uneven surfaces
