Участие в планировании. Совместно с преподавателями (специальных, профилирующих дисциплин) разрабатывает тематические планы и образовательные программы. Работа с обучающимися. Проводит индивидуальные и групповые занятия. Помогает формировать у детей исполнительские навыки, учит ансамблевой игре. Способствует развитию художественного вкуса, расширению музыкально-образных представлений и воспитанию творческой индивидуальности. Музыкальное сопровождение. Обеспечивает профессиональное исполнение аккомпанемента на уроках, экзаменах, зачётах, концертах, показательных выступлениях (например, в хореографических номерах, где используется музыка). Профессиональные навыки. Бегло читает с листа, транспонирует музыкальные произведения, владеет элементарными навыками импровизации. Методическая деятельность. Участвует в работе педагогических и методических советов, методических объединений. Ведёт методическую работу: готовит открытые уроки, методические сообщения, участвует в обновлении содержания программ. Организация участия в мероприятиях. Помогает готовить учеников к конкурсам, концертам, семинарам. Участвует в организации культурно-массовых мероприятий. Замещение. При необходимости (отпуск, болезнь) временно замещает другого концертмейстера по распоряжению руководства. Обеспечение безопасности. В период образовательного процесса обеспечивает охрану жизни и здоровья обучающихся. Выполняет правила по охране труда, пожарной и электробезопасности. Документирование. Ведёт установленную учебную документацию по утверждённым формам. Повышение квалификации. Систематически работает над своим профессиональным ростом: проходит курсы повышения квалификации (часто раз в три года), проходит аттестацию на соответствие должности.

Концертмейстер должен обладать следующими знаниями и умениями: умение читать с листа фортепианную партию любой сложности; навыки транспонирования (в том числе в пределах кварты, что важно при работе с духовыми инструментами); владение навыками игры в ансамбле; знание правил оркестровки, особенностей игры на инструментах симфонического и народного оркестра; умение играть клавиры (концертов, опер, кантат и др.) в соответствии с требованиями инструментовки каждой эпохи и стиля; знание основ вокала (постановки голоса, дыхания, артикуляции, нюансировки); знание основ хореографии и сценического движения (для координации с танцорами); умение импровизировать, подбирать по слуху гармонии к заданной теме в простой фактуре; знание музыкальной теории, гармонии, истории музыкальной культуры; понимание формы произведения, стиля композитора, жанра. При работе с хоровыми партитурами важно уметь максимально приблизить звучание фортепиано к хоровой звучности, знать приёмы цепного дыхания, активной дикции и другие.
