Изучает детей и среду. Анализ особенности личности ученика, условия его жизни, чтобы вовремя заметить трудности. Выявляет проблемы. Находит интересы, потребности, конфликтные ситуации, отклонения в поведении и оказывает своевременную поддержку. Выступает посредником. Связывает ребёнка с семьёй, школой, социальными службами, ведомствами или другими организациями, когда нужна внешняя помощь. Планирует работу. Разрабатывает программы поддержки, проекты по социальной адаптации, меры профилактики девиантного поведения. Организует деятельность. Проводит мероприятия, которые развивают социальные инициативы, реализует проекты, обеспечивает досуговую занятость. Создаёт безопасную среду. Способствует установлению в школе гуманных и нравственно здоровых отношений, обеспечивает психологический комфорт и безопасность детей. Взаимодействует. Работает в связке с учителями, классными руководителями, родителями, а также со специалистами из социальных служб, служб занятости, благотворительных организаций. Консультирует. Помогает родителям, педагогам, а иногда и самим детям разобраться в сложных ситуациях. Участвует в методической работе. Входит в педагогический или методический совет, помогает готовить родительские собрания и другие мероприятия. Выполняет организационные и безопасные функции. Ведёт документацию, использует современные технологии, соблюдает правила охраны труда и пожарной безопасности.

Высшее или среднее профессиональное образование в рамках укрупнённой группы Образование и педагогические науки Формы и методы работы с детьми и семьями группы риска, профилактики девиантного поведения, социальной реабилитации. Основы консультирования: как взаимодействовать с педагогами, родителями, самими обучающимися. Координировать взаимодействие с внешними организациями: органами опеки, КДН, социальными службами, волонтёрскими объединениями.
