The posting

We are sharing a specialised remote consulting opportunity for current law students and recent JD graduates with hands-on experience in law review editing, legal citation verification, Bluebook compliance, and legal research to contribute their editorial expertise to advanced AI training and evaluation initiatives.

Selected professionals will review legal citation grading frameworks, identify inaccuracies and ambiguities in citation rules, and develop realistic cite-checking exercises reflecting established law journal practices. The work combines practical editorial experience with detailed legal research, source verification, structured assessment development, and quality assurance to help improve the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of AI systems handling legal citations and research materials. Prior AI experience is not required.

Key Responsibilities

Bluebook Citation Review & Legal Research

  • Review and analyse legal citations for accuracy and compliance with established Bluebook rules
  • Evaluate pinpoint citations, short forms, introductory signals, parentheticals, and source references
  • Identify citation formatting errors, incomplete references, and inconsistencies in legal research materials
  • Assess whether cited authorities accurately support the legal propositions associated with them
  • Apply professional editorial judgement to ensure consistency with recognised legal citation standards

Citation Rubric Review & Development

  • Review existing Bluebook and pincite grading rubrics for clarity, completeness, and consistent application
  • Identify unclear rules, ambiguous instructions, and assessment criteria that may produce inconsistent editorial decisions
  • Evaluate how citation requirements apply across different source types and legal research contexts
  • Recommend improvements to citation review guidelines, evaluation criteria, and grading methodologies
  • Identify unusual citation scenarios and edge cases requiring additional guidance or clarification

Legal Cite-Checking Task Development

  • Develop realistic cite-checking exercises using legal source materials and citations containing deliberate errors
  • Create structured tasks covering citation formatting, pinpoint references, source verification, and substantive support
  • Prepare accurate model answers explaining the applicable Bluebook rules and appropriate corrections
  • Design exercises across different levels of complexity, from straightforward formatting issues to nuanced source-support problems
  • Translate practical law review editing experience into structured materials suitable for specialised AI evaluation

AI Training & Citation Accuracy Evaluation

  • Review and assess AI-generated legal citations, citation explanations, and editorial recommendations
  • Identify inaccuracies involving source attribution, pinpoint references, citation structure, and Bluebook rule interpretation
  • Evaluate whether AI-generated responses consistently apply appropriate legal citation conventions
  • Provide detailed written feedback explaining citation errors, relevant rules, and correct editorial approaches
  • Contribute specialised legal editorial expertise to improving AI performance in citation checking and source verification

Editorial Quality Assurance & Remote Collaboration

  • Apply consistent editorial standards across detailed legal citation review and research assignments
  • Review citation-related materials for accuracy, completeness, clarity, and alignment with established grading rubrics
  • Flag ambiguous citation scenarios and unclear assessment instructions to project coordinators
  • Produce clear editorial notes, corrected citations, structured explanations, and evaluation feedback
  • Work independently while maintaining high standards of accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery

Ideal Profile

  • Current law student, preferably in the second or third year of a JD programme (2L or 3L), or recent JD graduate
  • Hands-on experience with law review, law journal editing, or comparable academic legal publication activities
  • Demonstrated experience conducting cite-checking, source collection, or legal citation verification
  • Strong working knowledge of The Bluebook and its application to legal research and editorial review
  • Familiarity with pinpoint citations, short-form citations, introductory signals, explanatory parentheticals, and complex citation structures
  • Ability to identify citation errors and clearly explain the rules and reasoning supporting each correction
  • Experience comparing cited authorities with legal propositions to assess substantive source support
  • Strong legal research, analytical reasoning, critical-thinking, and editorial problem-solving capabilities
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy across repetitive, technically demanding assignments
  • Excellent written communication skills, particularly in explaining complex citation rules and editorial decisions
  • Ability to identify ambiguous rules, unusual references, and inconsistencies within structured grading criteria
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage assigned tasks independently
  • Experience as a law journal editor, articles editor, executive editor, or dedicated cite-checking editor is advantageous
  • Familiarity with developing editorial guidelines, assessment rubrics, or structured legal review processes is beneficial
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment and meet established quality standards and deadlines
  • Prior experience with AI training, model evaluation, or legal technology applications is not required

Engagement Details

  • Freelance / contract engagement
  • Fully remote
  • Compensation: $50–$80/hour
  • 25 available openings
  • Specialised legal research and editorial consulting role focused on Bluebook citation standards, law review editing, and AI training
  • Work will involve citation rubric assessment, legal source verification, cite-checking task development, error identification, and structured evaluation feedback
  • Assignments will draw on practical law journal experience, detailed Bluebook knowledge, and consistent editorial reasoning

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
