The posting

We are sharing a specialised remote consulting opportunity for current law students and recent JD graduates with hands-on expertise in Bluebook citation rules, legal research, law review editing, and citation verification to contribute their analytical and editorial skills to advanced AI training and evaluation initiatives.

Selected professionals will review legal citation assessment frameworks, identify citation inaccuracies and ambiguous editorial rules, and develop realistic cite-checking exercises based on established law journal practices. The work combines practical legal research experience with source verification, structured evaluation design, detailed editorial analysis, and quality assurance to help improve the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of AI systems handling legal citations and research materials. Prior AI experience is not required.

Key Responsibilities

Bluebook Citation Analysis & Legal Verification

  • Review and analyse legal citations for compliance with established Bluebook rules and professional citation conventions
  • Evaluate pinpoint citations, short forms, introductory signals, explanatory parentheticals, and source references
  • Identify formatting inaccuracies, incomplete citations, and inconsistencies within legal research materials
  • Assess whether cited authorities accurately support the legal propositions and statements associated with them
  • Apply rigorous editorial judgement to ensure citation accuracy, consistency, and adherence to recognised legal writing standards

Citation Rubric Review & Evaluation Methodology

  • Review existing Bluebook and pincite grading rubrics for clarity, completeness, and consistent application
  • Identify ambiguous instructions, incomplete criteria, and rules that different editors might interpret inconsistently
  • Evaluate how citation standards apply across different source types, legal authorities, and research contexts
  • Recommend improvements to editorial guidance, assessment criteria, and structured citation review methodologies
  • Identify unusual citation scenarios and edge cases requiring additional clarification or evaluation guidance

Legal Cite-Checking Task Development

  • Develop realistic cite-checking exercises using legal source materials and citations containing intentional errors
  • Create structured tasks addressing formatting problems, incorrect pincites, source attribution, and substantive support
  • Prepare accurate model answers explaining the applicable Bluebook provisions and appropriate citation corrections
  • Design exercises across multiple citation types and difficulty levels, including subtle source-support discrepancies
  • Translate practical law journal editing and legal research experience into structured materials suitable for specialised AI evaluation

AI Training & Legal Citation Evaluation

  • Review and assess AI-generated legal citations, editorial explanations, and citation-related analytical responses
  • Identify inaccuracies involving citation structure, source references, pinpoint citations, and Bluebook rule interpretation
  • Evaluate whether AI-generated responses apply relevant citation conventions accurately and consistently
  • Provide detailed written feedback explaining citation errors, applicable rules, and appropriate editorial corrections
  • Contribute specialised legal research and editorial expertise to improving AI performance across citation verification tasks

Editorial Quality Assurance & Remote Collaboration

  • Apply consistent citation standards across detailed legal research, source verification, and editorial review assignments
  • Evaluate citation-related materials for accuracy, completeness, clarity, and alignment with established grading criteria
  • Identify ambiguous citation scenarios and communicate unresolved interpretation questions to project coordinators
  • Produce clear editorial notes, corrected citations, structured explanations, and detailed evaluation feedback
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, attention to detail, consistency, and timely completion of assigned work

Ideal Profile

  • Current law student, preferably in the second or third year of a JD programme (2L or 3L), or recent JD graduate
  • Hands-on experience with law review, law journal editing, or comparable academic legal publication activities
  • Demonstrated experience conducting cite-checking, legal source collection, or citation verification
  • Strong working knowledge of The Bluebook and its application to legal research, citation formatting, and editorial review
  • Familiarity with pinpoint citations, short-form references, introductory signals, explanatory parentheticals, and complex citation structures
  • Ability to identify citation inaccuracies and clearly explain the relevant rules and reasoning supporting each correction
  • Experience comparing cited authorities with legal propositions to assess substantive source support
  • Strong legal research, analytical reasoning, critical-thinking, and editorial problem-solving capabilities
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to maintain consistency across repetitive, technically demanding assignments
  • Excellent written communication skills, particularly when explaining complex citation rules and editorial decisions
  • Ability to recognise ambiguous citation requirements, unusual source references, and inconsistencies within structured grading rubrics
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage assigned tasks independently while meeting deadlines
  • Experience as a law journal editor, articles editor, executive editor, or dedicated cite-checking editor is advantageous
  • Familiarity with developing editorial guidelines, citation assessment rubrics, or structured review processes is beneficial
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment and maintain established quality standards
  • Interest in legal technology, AI-assisted legal research, and emerging applications of automated citation verification
  • Prior experience with AI training, model evaluation, or related technology projects is not required

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
