Job Description:

The Product Manager II - Controls supports the strategy, roadmap, and lifecycle management of connected controls, embedded systems, cloud-enabled platforms, and digital services for AAON’s HVAC product portfolio. Working with customers and cross-functional partners, this role gathers market input, develops requirements, supports business cases, and coordinates product initiatives from discovery through launch and ongoing improvement. The position requires practical knowledge of HVAC controls and connected products, sound product judgment, and the ability to translate customer and business needs into well-defined solutions.

The Product Manager II - Controls works with product leadership and cross-functional teams to plan, prioritize, and execute product initiatives for controls, IoT, and cloud-based solutions. This role manages defined products, features, or workstreams and supports product vision, customer requirements, business cases, release priorities, and stakeholder alignment for solutions that may include equipment controls, supervisory control systems, edge devices, connectivity, telemetry, remote monitoring, analytics, mobile or web applications, and cloud services.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain assigned portions of the product roadmap in partnership with product leadership and controls engineering.
  • Gather and translate customer, contractor, service, sales, and internal stakeholder needs into product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and recommended priorities.
  • Coordinate cross-functional work with controls engineering, embedded software, cloud software, hardware, cybersecurity, UX, manufacturing, service, marketing, and sales teams.
  • Research customer problems, competitive offerings, and market trends related to connected HVAC systems, remote monitoring, diagnostics, analytics, predictive maintenance, and energy optimization.
  • Develop requirements for device onboarding, provisioning, connectivity, telemetry, alarms, dashboards, APIs, user roles, data access, reliability, and support workflows.
  • Partner with engineering teams to address security, interoperability, manufacturability, serviceability, and platform considerations for assigned products and features.
  • Monitor emerging technologies, customer adoption trends, regulatory developments, cybersecurity expectations, and industry standards relevant to connected HVAC solutions.
  • Support commercialization activities, including product positioning, pricing analysis, launch readiness, sales enablement, training content, and customer communications.
  • Track and report product metrics such as adoption, activation, uptime, feature usage, customer satisfaction, service impact, revenue contribution, and profitability.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, information systems, product management, business, or a related technical field; an engineering degree is preferred. Requires relevant product management, product ownership, engineering, technical marketing, or related experience, preferably in HVAC, building automation, industrial controls, IoT, enterprise software, SaaS, cloud platforms, or connected-device environments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Practical understanding of HVAC systems, controls architectures, building automation concepts, equipment communication, and connected-device ecosystems.
  • Working knowledge of IoT platforms, cloud services, edge devices, telemetry, APIs, data analytics, dashboards, mobile or web applications, and SaaS business models.
  • Ability to translate customer needs and technical constraints into clear requirements, priorities, and measurable outcomes.
  • Experience supporting products through discovery, business case development, roadmap planning, development, launch, lifecycle management, and continuous improvement.
  • Sound commercial judgment and the ability to contribute to market assessments, competitive positioning, pricing analysis, adoption planning, and profitability reviews.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity, data privacy, reliability, scalability, interoperability, and support considerations for connected products and cloud-based services.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and presentation skills for technical, customer, and cross-functional audiences.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple assigned initiatives.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and product management tools such as roadmap, backlog, requirements, analytics, or product lifecycle management systems.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions, influence without direct authority, and escalate risks or trade-offs appropriately.

This role requires critical thinking, structured problem solving, planning, and the ability to evaluate considerations across hardware, software, controls, cloud, customer experience, and business needs. The Product Manager II must be comfortable working with some ambiguity, balancing priorities, analyzing trade-offs, and coordinating with product leadership and cross-functional teams to make well-supported product decisions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, or work at a computer for extended periods in an office, lab, or manufacturing environment.
  • Occasional travel to customer sites, trade shows, industry events, manufacturing facilities, or technology partners.
  • Ability to interact with equipment, controls panels, engineering labs, and production floor environments as needed to support product discovery, testing, launch, and field feedback.

Work is primarily performed in an office setting with regular interaction with engineering labs, controls development environments, manufacturing areas, customer-facing teams, and external technology partners. The role involves frequent collaboration across technical and commercial functions and may include occasional travel to support product research, beta programs, field validation, customer visits, launches, or industry events.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
