A rapidly expanding, entrepreneurial technology company, EBS (part of Alarm.com), is seeking a motivated Software Engineer who wants to be part of a fast-paced team. The Video Engineering team is perfect for candidates who want to gain exposure to a wide variety of technologies in the Internet of Things world including smart home and business automation, video streaming, clip uploads, video monitoring and analysis, cutting edge web and mobile app development, large scale real time databases, and backend application development and hosting.

As a Software Engineer, you will work on the Video team to make our video monitoring solution the best in class. You'll work close to the media path - the real-time streaming protocols and multimedia pipelines that carry live and recorded video from cameras in the field to our users - and you'll have the opportunity to work across various technical areas using the latest technologies while using agile development methods.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designing, implementing and testing new software features across our video streaming services and media pipelines, with guidance from more experienced engineers
  • Working with real-time streaming protocols such as RTSP, RTP and WebRTC, and with multimedia frameworks such as GStreamer, to deliver live and recorded video reliably
  • Helping investigate and resolve streaming issues across the delivery path, including connectivity and NAT traversal, latency, and stream quality
  • Innovating and improving existing products
  • Analyzing functional requirements and product specifications
  • Assisting with researching, adopting and integrating new technologies
  • Taking ownership of projects to ensure their successful completion with respect to deadlines
  • Collaborating with Quality Assurance in developing a test plan to ensure successful deployment of updates
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • 0+ years of experience; B.S. in Computer Science or a similar engineering program with strong academic performance
  • Solid programming skills in C or C++ (coursework, internships, or personal projects)
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/UDP, sockets, and NAT traversal basics
  • Exposure to real-time media streaming protocols such as RTSP, RTP, or WebRTC (including ICE/TURN)
  • Exposure to multimedia frameworks such as GStreamer or FFmpeg
  • Strong English proficiency with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-starter, analytical, tenacious problem solver
  • Rigorous attention to detail and focus on quality of deliverables
  • Proven team experience and comfort in a team-oriented environment
  • Passion for working with technology and excitement for creating high quality consumer technology products

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with C#/.NET
  • Familiarity with Linux development environments
  • Exposure to video codecs and containers (H.264/H.265, RTP payload formats)
