Job Description

Manager – Transactional Monitoring

Sydney or Melbourne

If you live in Australia or New Zealand, you’ve likely heard of AMP. But at a time when society is changing, we are too. We’re now a nimbler business with new leadership and thinking.

For us, these are exciting times. There’s a real potential for big thinkers to help us redefine what financial services could be. And turn our legacy into something even more positive and powerful for the future.

Help people create their tomorrow, while you create yours

We help people with their banking, super, retirement and finances. Through upturns, downturns, recessions, and major life transitions. Every day, we help people see and make more of their financial potential, so that they can create their tomorrow. And we’ve been doing it for over 170 years.

If we do our job well, we genuinely add to the prosperity of our country and its people.

The Manager - Transaction Monitoring, Financial Crime Risk is responsible for providing Line 2 oversight of AMP’s transaction monitoring framework, ensuring effective, consistent and compliant detection outcomes aligned to AML/CTF obligations. The role supports the assessment and management of financial crime risk through oversight of typologies, risk mapping, scenario design, detection logic and threshold settings, ensuring monitoring controls remain risk-based and aligned to regulatory expectations.

Through specialist expertise and informed challenge, the role contributes to the ongoing optimisation of transaction monitoring capability across financial crime and fraud risks, strengthening detection coverage, control effectiveness and responsiveness to evolving threats, regulatory change and business needs.

How will you make an impact

Transaction Monitoring Risk Assessment (TMRA)

  • Support the maintenance, enhancement and ongoing uplift of the Transaction Monitoring Risk Assessment (TMRA), including financial crime typologies and red flag indicators across AML/CTF, fraud and scams
  • Ensure risk assessments remain current by incorporating changes in products, customers, channels, geographies, emerging threats and regulatory guidance
  • Work closely with Line 1 Financial Crime Analytics and operations teams to translate TMRA outputs into scenario coverage, rules, thresholds and control design
  • Prepare and communicate TMRA insights to support clear understanding, consistent application and visibility of risk across transaction monitoring and broader financial crime functions

Typology Coverage & Detection Approach

  • Support the ongoing review of financial crime typologies and their alignment to transaction monitoring controls and detection coverage
  • Ensure typologies remain aligned to regulatory expectations, emerging risk indicators and industry best practice
  • Identify gaps in typology coverage and traceability to regulatory guidance and evolving threats
  • Assist in translating typologies into monitoring scenarios, rule development and detection logic
  • Partner with intelligence and analytics teams to incorporate new and evolving typologies into monitoring approaches

Scenario Design & Review

  • Provide Line 2 oversight and specialist input into the design, review and optimisation of transaction monitoring scenarios
  • Review scenario logic, thresholds, segmentation, testing, validation and expected outputs to support effective detection of suspicious activity
  • Assess scenario performance, including alert volumes, quality and conversion outcomes, to determine effectiveness and drive continuous improvement
  • Review scenario enhancements, tuning and decommissioning to ensure alignment with internal controls and regulatory expectations
  • Provide informed challenge and advisory support on scenario design and implementation to strengthen detection capability

Governance & Reporting

  • Contribute to governance forums and management committees, including preparation of materials, insights and escalation of key issues
  • Support AMLCO, Risk Committee and broader governance reporting by ensuring transaction monitoring matters are accurately captured, evidenced and communicated
  • Translate regulatory change, audit findings and technical insights into clear, practical updates for stakeholders
  • Contribute to governance documentation that supports effective oversight, accountability and risk transparency

What you will bring to the role

  • 5+ years’ experience in financial crime, AML/CTF, transaction monitoring or risk operations within financial services
  • Strong experience in transaction monitoring, including scenario design, implementation, testing, validation and performance assessment
  • Experience with Transaction Monitoring Risk Assessments (TMRA) or equivalent risk-based frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to translate financial crime typologies into monitoring scenarios, controls and detection approaches
  • Exposure to scenario optimisation, threshold tuning and broader control uplift or continuous improvement initiatives
  • Strong understanding of AML/CTF obligations, fraud and scams risk, and broader financial crime frameworks

Qualifications

  • Relevant degree in Business, Commerce, Finance, Law, Analytics, Risk, Governance or related field
  • CAMS or other relevant financial crime, audit or assurance qualifications highly regarded

Who you are

You bring strong technical financial crime and transaction monitoring expertise, with experience across AML/CTF, fraud/scams and broader financial crime risk frameworks. You understand transaction monitoring controls, scenario design and detection methodologies, including typologies, rule logic, thresholds, optimisation and performance assessment, and are comfortable applying Transaction Monitoring Risk Assessments and interpreting regulatory requirements in a practical, risk-based way to support monitoring coverage, control effectiveness and compliance outcomes.

You demonstrate strong execution and ownership, delivering high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment with a focus on accuracy, consistency and control effectiveness. You proactively identify issues, drive resolution and contribute to continuous improvement.

You bring sound judgement and influencing capability, with the confidence to challenge and support balanced, risk-based decisions. You communicate complex technical concepts clearly, translating them into actionable insights, and engage effectively with stakeholders across business, operations, risk, analytics and support functions.

You are proactive, collaborative and detail-oriented, with a strong focus on maintaining an effective control environment and the adaptability to operate in a dynamic and regulated setting.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
