Job Description Summary

The Department of English and Media Studies at Bentley University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in communication studies, to begin July 1, 2027. We are interested in candidates whose research incorporates humanistic, qualitative, and/or design research methodologies.

The successful candidate will be able to teach existing courses such as Multimodal Communication, Introduction to Communication Studies, Introduction to Mass Communication, Intercultural Communication, and/or Public Speaking for Professional Success (at the undergraduate and/or graduate-level), as well as develop new courses to meet the needs of contemporary undergraduates.

Tenure-track faculty teach a 2-2 load for their first three years and a 3-2 load for their final two years before applying for tenure. Standard teaching load for tenured faculty is 3-2, with the potential for additional course releases for exceptional creative/scholarly production.

Bentley is committed to the teacher-scholar model where teaching, scholarship, service and community engagement are expected and valued. We seek qualified faculty who represent diverse backgrounds, interests, and talents and share a commitment to high ethical standards and a willingness to embrace challenge and change.

The English and Media Studies Department offers an array of courses in literature, film, communication, creative writing, and media production. We actively engage students through several innovative degree paths to complement students pursuing business-related professions, including majors in English, Creative Industries, and Film and Media and minors in Gender and Sexuality, Media Management, and Ethnic Studies. Serving as the hub for writing and media, the department also houses the Climate Creativity Lab, Writing Center, ESOL Center, and Film and Media Studies Lab.

Bentley’s high graduation and retention rates and top-ranked Pulsifer Career Center reflects a commitment to student success and inclusiveness. With a strong faculty of teacher-scholars, Bentley strives to be a “Force for Good” through the integration of business with the arts and sciences, and a strong emphasis on ethics and social responsibility. Providing a stimulating academic community for faculty, staff, and students, Bentley supports its faculty as they pursue cutting-edge research and bring their expertise and real world understanding into the classroom.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
