Illinois Litigation Attorney – Insurance Defense

Location: Wheaton, IL Job Type: Full-Time Salary: $90,000–$140,000 per year, commensurate with experience

About the Opportunity

Bosun Solutions is seeking an Illinois-licensed Litigation Attorney to join a growing insurance defense practice in Wheaton, Illinois. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who wants meaningful responsibility, hands-on litigation experience, and the opportunity to build a long-term career with a collaborative, close-knit law firm.

The firm represents insurance carriers and their insureds in civil litigation matters throughout Northern Illinois. Due to continued growth in the practice, the team is looking to add an attorney who can take ownership of their own caseload while working closely with experienced attorneys and receiving support as needed.

This is an in-office position in Wheaton, Illinois, with regular appearances in state and federal courts, including the Cook County Daley Center and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

What You'll Do

As a Litigation Attorney, you will manage a caseload of civil litigation matters from inception through resolution. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Manage an assigned caseload of approximately 20–30 matters initially, with the opportunity to take on additional cases as experience and proficiency grow
  • Handle civil litigation matters involving insurance defense
  • Draft pleadings, motions, proposed orders, legal memoranda, and other litigation documents
  • Conduct legal research and develop case strategies
  • Manage written discovery, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission
  • Take and defend depositions
  • Review client documents and evaluate claims and defenses
  • Prepare case evaluations, status reports, and client correspondence
  • Communicate directly with clients, claims professionals, opposing counsel, and other litigation participants
  • Attend court hearings, status calls, mediations, and pretrial settlement conferences
  • Participate in trial preparation and develop courtroom experience
  • Manage competing deadlines, billing requirements, and case responsibilities
  • Work independently while collaborating with partners, senior counsel, and the firm's support team

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is an Illinois-licensed attorney with meaningful civil litigation experience who is comfortable taking ownership of a caseload and interacting directly with clients and opposing counsel.

Required:

  • Active Illinois Bar license and membership in good standing
  • Admission to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois
  • Experience managing an active litigation caseload
  • Strong legal research, analytical, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle state and federal court appearances professionally and confidently
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Willingness and ability to work in-office in Wheaton, Illinois
  • Ability to appear in person at courts throughout the Chicagoland area as required

Preferred:

  • Approximately 1+ year of insurance defense experience
  • Experience with Cook County and surrounding Illinois jurisdictions
  • Experience handling pleadings, written discovery, and depositions
  • Prior courtroom experience
  • Personal injury or other substantive civil litigation experience
  • Experience working directly with insurance carriers, claims professionals, or insured clients

Insurance defense experience is preferred but not required. Attorneys coming from other substantive civil litigation backgrounds are encouraged to apply, particularly those with hands-on experience with discovery, depositions, court appearances, and case management.

Why Join the Firm?

This is an opportunity to join a smaller, established litigation practice where attorneys have meaningful responsibility and visibility.

Rather than being one attorney among hundreds at a large firm, you'll have the opportunity to develop your own caseload, work directly with experienced attorneys, and grow your litigation skills through hands-on experience.

The firm also places a strong emphasis on maintaining a healthy work-life balance. The goal is to build a successful legal career without sacrificing family, personal commitments, or life outside of work.

What You Can Expect

  • Meaningful ownership of your own litigation caseload
  • Direct access to experienced attorneys and leadership
  • Opportunities to expand your courtroom, deposition, and trial skills
  • A collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Strong work-life balance
  • Opportunities for professional growth and increased responsibility
  • Health, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits
  • A supportive paralegal team

Compensation & Benefits

  • $90,000–$140,000 annual salary, commensurate with experience
  • Health insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Support from experienced attorneys and paralegal staff
  • Opportunities for professional development and career advancement

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
