Job Description

Cantor Fitzgerald’s Energy group in Houston advises clients across the upstream, midstream, downstream, and oilfield services verticals on mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, and strategic alternatives and is seeking a highly motivated summer analyst to join the team for its 2028 summer internship program. The Houston team sits within Cantor’s broader Power, Energy and Infrastructure (PEI) franchise based in New York and London, giving analysts exposure to a global client base. The Houston office operates as a lean, deal-focused team. Summer Analysts work directly with senior bankers from the first client conversation through closing and are given meaningful responsibility earlier than is typical at larger institutions.

The Cantor Energy Summer Analyst Program is a 10-week program running from June through August 2028. Assignments mirror the work of a first-year analyst, and each Summer Analyst is paired with a mentor and receives formal mid-point and end-of-program reviews. Summer Analysts who perform well may be considered for a full-time analyst offer.

Responsibilities

Summer Analysts are embedded members of the deal team and contribute across the stages of an engagement, from pitch preparation through execution. The role is analytically demanding and the work is directly tied to live transactions, with day-to-day guidance from analysts, associates, and senior bankers.

  • Build and maintain financial models, including operating models, discounted cash flow, accretion/dilution, leveraged buyout, and commodity price sensitivity analyses
  • Perform valuation work across comparable companies, precedent transactions, and net asset value methodologies specific to energy assets
  • Prepare pitch books, management presentations, confidential information memoranda, and other client and marketing materials
  • Conduct industry, commodity, and company research, and monitor developments across conventional energy, power, renewables, and infrastructure markets
  • Support due diligence, manage data rooms, and coordinate with clients, counsel, accountants, and other transaction parties
  • Draft internal approval and committee materials and assist with compliance and documentation requirements
  • Work alongside Power, Energy and Infrastructure colleagues in New York and London on cross-border and cross-sector mandates, as well as with our Structured Products Group partners on ABS transactions

Qualifications

  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and financial modeling skills, with high proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated interest in the energy sector and an understanding of the commodity, regulatory, and capital markets dynamics that drive it
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present analysis clearly to senior bankers and clients
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a high standard for accuracy in all work product
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams under tight deadlines in a fast-paced transaction environment
  • Sound judgment, professional maturity, and a collaborative approach to working within a small team
  • Prior finance, energy, or capital markets internship experience, or involvement in a finance-focused student organization or case competition, preferred
  • Availability to be based in Houston and work in-office for the full 10 weeks of the program, June through August 2028

Educational Qualifications:

  • **Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program, with an expected graduation date between December 2028 and June 2029
  • Coursework in finance, accounting, economics, engineering, or a related quantitative discipline preferred
  • Strong academic record (3.5+ GPA on a 4.0 scale)

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
