Job Description

Job Title: Investment Banking Analyst I – Energy (Full-Time; Class of 2027)

Location: Houston, Texas

Firm Overview:

Cantor Fitzgerald, with over 16,000 employees, has been a leading global financial services firm at the forefront of financial and technological innovation since 1945.

Cantor is a preeminent investment bank serving more than 5,000 institutional clients around the world, recognized for its strengths in fixed income and equity capital markets, investment banking, SPAC underwriting, PIPE placements, commercial real estate, and for its global distribution platform. Capitalizing on the firm’s financial acumen and technology prowess, Cantor’s portfolio of businesses also includes Prime Brokerage, Asset Management, and other businesses and ventures. Cantor has consistently fueled the growth of original ideas, pioneered new markets, and provided superior service to clients. Cantor operates trading desks in every major financial center globally, with offices in over 30 locations around the world.

As one of the few remaining private partnerships on Wall Street, Cantor has the distinct ability to focus on long-term value creation and solid relationship building. Our structure allows us to respond quickly to client needs, develop solutions that address complex challenges, avoid the limitations of bureaucracy, and attract talented individuals who are driven to succeed.

Group Overview:

Cantor Fitzgerald’s Energy group in Houston advises clients across the upstream, midstream, downstream, and oilfield services verticals on mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, and strategic alternatives and is seeking a highly motivated investment banking analyst to join the team. The Houston team sits within Cantor’s broader Power, Energy and Infrastructure (PEI) franchise based in New York and London, giving analysts exposure to a global client base.

The Houston office operates as a lean, deal-focused team. Analysts work directly with senior bankers from the first client conversation through closing and are given meaningful responsibility earlier than is typical at larger institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain detailed financial models, including operating, DCF, accretion/dilution, LBO and commodity price sensitivity analyses.
  • Perform valuation analyses using comparable companies, precedent transactions and net asset value methods specific to energy assets.
  • Prepare pitch books, management presentations, confidential information memoranda and other client‑facing materials.
  • Conduct industry, commodity and company research, tracking trends across conventional energy, power, renewables and infrastructure markets.
  • Support due‑diligence processes, manage data rooms and coordinate with clients, counsel, accountants and other transaction parties.
  • Draft internal approval and committee materials, ensuring compliance with firm policies and documentation requirements.
  • Collaborate with Power, Energy & Infrastructure colleagues in New York and London on cross‑border and cross‑sector mandates.
  • Assist Structured Products Group partners on asset‑backed securities (ABS) transactions related to energy assets.
  • Monitor and update financial models and transaction trackers throughout the deal lifecycle.
  • Participate in internal training sessions and contribute to the continuous improvement of team processes.

Qualifications

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated interest in the energy sector and understanding of commodity, regulatory and capital‑markets dynamics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities; capable of presenting analysis to senior bankers and clients.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a high standard for accuracy in all deliverables.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams under tight deadlines in a fast‑paced transaction environment.
  • Professional maturity, sound judgment and a collaborative approach within a small, deal‑focused team.
  • Prior internship experience in investment banking, private equity or an energy‑focused role preferred.
  • Willingness to be based full‑time in Houston on an in‑office basis.
  • Bachelor’s degree with expected graduation between Dec 2026 and Jun 2027; 3.5+ GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • U.S. work authorization without need for future sponsorship.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
