The posting

The Material Master Specialist owns the creation, extension, maintenance, and governance of SAP material master data for the Texas manufacturing plant. Positioned within Operations, this role ensures that material data is accurate, complete, and available on time so that planning, procurement, production, inventory, costing, and shipping processes run without disruption.

The role is the operational steward of the material master. Engineering provides design and product-release data; this role turns that data into plant-ready material records, coordinates the department views owned by each function, and protects data quality through standards, controls, and continuous improvement.

Primary Responsibilities:

Material Master Execution

  • Create, extend, change, block, and deactivate SAP material master records for the Texas plant in accordance with approved standards and service levels.
  • Review material requests for completeness and accuracy before processing; return or escalate requests that do not meet requirements.
  • Coordinate plant-level views (MRP, Purchasing, Work Scheduling, Storage, Quality, Accounting/Costing, Sales) with the responsible functions so records are complete before use.
  • Maintain material types, units of measure, material groups, plant parameters, and other attributes that drive downstream transactions.

Engineering Handoff and Product Readiness

  • Receive released materials and engineering changes (ECNs and/or MCNs) from Engineering and convert them into plant-ready material records.
  • Support new product introductions and engineering changes by confirming material data readiness before planning, purchasing, and production need it.
  • Partner with Engineering on Manufacturing BOM-related material issues, effectivity, and revision alignment; Engineering remains the owner of design data and engineering BOMs.

Data Quality and Governance

  • Apply and maintain data standards, naming conventions, approval workflows, and audit-ready change documentation.
  • Perform routine data-quality reviews to identify incomplete, inconsistent, duplicate, or obsolete records and drive cleanup.
  • Track master-data performance measures such as request cycle time, first-pass accuracy, aging requests, and defect trends.
  • Investigate master-data errors that cause transaction failures, MRP exceptions, purchasing delays, or costing issues; drive root cause and corrective action.

Plant Launch and Continuous Improvement

  • Support Texas plant launch activities, including data migration, testing, cutover, and post-go-live stabilization within the scope of material master.
  • Identify opportunities to standardize, simplify, and automate material master processes, including governed mass updates, while maintaining controls.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs and training materials; serve as the plant subject-matter resource for material master requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4+ years of experience in material master, master data, ERP, supply chain, or manufacturing operations.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with SAP ECC ERP and material master maintenance.
  • 2+ years of experience working across Operations, Engineering, Product Management, Supply Chain, Finance, and IT and drive issues to closure.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of how material master data affects MRP, procurement, inventory, production, and product costing.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to find and correct root causes of data issues.
  • Experience with SAP Materials Management (MM), and with SAP ECC and/or SAP S/4HANA.
  • Experience with SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) or similar workflow and approval tools.
  • Experience with mass-update or data-load tools such as Winshuttle or SAP migration tools.
  • Understanding of BOMs, engineering change processes, and product-release handoffs in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting a plant startup, ERP deployment, or data migration.
  • Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methods.
  • Advanced Excel and Microsoft 365 skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
