Job Description

At Con Edison, safety is our highest priority and the foundation of everything we do. Transmission Operations is seeking a motivated and innovative Technical Senior Specialist to support the development, optimization, and sustainment of critical work management systems, business applications, reporting tools, and operational technology solutions that enable the safe and reliable operation of the electric transmission system.

Reporting to the Section Manager, this role serves as a key partner to field operations, business stakeholders, IT organizations, vendors, and consultants to drive operational excellence, process improvement, and digital transformation initiatives. The successful candidate will leverage technology, analytics, automation, and project management expertise to translate operational needs into effective solutions that improve workforce productivity, enhance data-driven decision-making, and support the safe, reliable delivery of service to our customers.

This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and supervise assigned employees by establishing clear expectations, setting priorities, assigning work, monitoring results, and ensuring accountability for safety, quality, productivity, and operational performance. This position manages direct reports and is responsible for day-to-day people leadership.
  • Conduct performance management activities including goal setting, coaching, feedback, performance reviews, development planning, recognition, and corrective action in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Develop employees through mentoring, training, knowledge transfer, succession planning, and career development opportunities to build technical capability and organizational readiness.
  • Lead the development, maintenance, and continuous enhancement of Transmission Operations work management systems and applications, including Engage, GIS, DataSplice, Maximo, and related operational technologies.
  • Partner with field personnel, business stakeholders, vendors, consultants, and IT organizations to identify operational needs, evaluate solutions, and implement improvements that enhance efficiency, reliability, and workforce effectiveness.
  • Analyze business and operational requirements and direct the design, development, implementation, and support of applications, automated workflows, reporting solutions, and process improvements using technologies such as Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint, and Power BI.
  • Lead application testing, deployment, system integration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and user support activities to ensure technology solutions perform reliably and meet business requirements.
  • Manage technology and business improvement projects from planning through execution, including resource allocation, schedule management, stakeholder coordination, risk mitigation, progress reporting, and successful delivery of project objectives.
  • Administer vendor, consultant, contract, budget, invoice, and expenditure-related activities while ensuring appropriate oversight, fiscal responsibility, and compliance with company requirements.
  • Champion Con Edison's commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, cybersecurity, information security, diversity, equity, and inclusion by ensuring all team activities are conducted in compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and operational best practices.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Mathematics and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

Relevant Work Experience

  • Minimum of five years of relevant information technology experience, required.
  • Experience developing and supporting enterprise applications, required.
  • Experience troubleshooting software, hardware, and system integration issues, required.
  • Experience working with structured datasets, reporting platforms, and business intelligence tools, required.
  • Ability to manage process improvement projects to successful completion, required.
  • Experience performing business systems analysis and requirements gathering, preferred.
  • Experience supporting operational and field organizations, preferred.
  • Experience leading teams and implementing business or information technology projects or programs or demonstrated ability to manage process improvement projects to successful completion, preferred.

Additional Physical Demands

  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Must be able and willing to travel to all locations in the Northeast, including Canada.
