Job Description

The Miller Information Commons is where Champlain students study, build, create, and get help, all under one roof. As an Access Services Coordinator, you’ll keep it running and make it feel welcoming when students need it most: evenings and weekends.

Champlain College is hiring part-time Access Services Coordinators to supervise library circulation services in the Miller Information Commons — a multi-use facility that houses the library, Student Success Center, computer lab, maker space, study rooms, and classrooms. In this role, you'll oversee facility operations, manage circulation systems, lead student employees, and carry out projects that keep the library running smoothly. This position is filled by 6–8 individuals concurrently, and flexibility with scheduling is required.

The ideal candidate brings strong customer service instincts, comfort with technology, and a genuine interest in mentoring student employees. You'll serve as a front-line resource for the Champlain community — answering questions, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring the space is welcoming and well-managed.

Key Responsibilities

Circulation & Facility Management

  • Provide library circulation services and serve as a point of contact for questions about the library, circulation policies, and the college
  • Open and close the Miller Information Commons facility, oversee the space during shifts, and troubleshoot technology-related issues
  • Enforce library policies for patrons and student workers

Student Employee Supervision

  • Supervise, schedule, and train student workers in library procedures, policies, customer service, and library technologies
  • Foster a library environment that is welcoming and accessible to all, and mentor student employees in an equity-centered approach to customer service

Project Coordination

  • Manage ongoing library projects such as collection weeding, book shifting, inventory, shelf reading, and multimedia initiatives
  • Coordinate project timelines and student project teams to ensure successful completion
  • Maintain and edit library information in a dynamic wiki

Additional Library Services

  • May coordinate and process course reserves with faculty to ensure timely availability
  • May contribute to interlibrary loan services and assist with library programming and events as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 2–4 years of customer service and supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a position of responsibility
  • Strong computer skills and technology aptitude, with the ability to quickly learn new systems and troubleshoot software and hardware issues
  • Experience with common applications such as Google Workspace and Microsoft 365
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with exceptional interpersonal and customer service abilities
  • Aptitude and passion for mentoring young adults with a variety of needs and backgrounds
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and proactively address emerging needs in a fast-paced environment

Working Arrangements

  • Part-time position (5–20 hours/week, 3 days/week, 12 months/year) based at our main campus in Burlington, Vermont
  • Shifts are scheduled primarily during the following windows, with flexibility required: Sunday–Thursday evenings, 5:00–10:00 PM Friday evenings, 5:00–8:00 PM Saturdays, 11:00–4:00 PM Sunday afternoons, 12:00–5:00 PM
  • Extended hours may apply during peak periods; occasional weekday morning shifts are also possible
  • Work is performed in a library environment; requires standing, walking, sitting, bending, and occasional lifting up to 30 pounds
  • May involve working in occasionally dusty environments

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $17.83
  • Retirement: Eligible to contribute to the 403(b) plan
  • Other Perks: Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with counseling services, access to employee discounts and local/national benefit programs

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
