Job Description

The Digital Automation Engineer 1 supports the production, quality assurance, and publishing of digital content across web and email channels. This position works extensively within enterprise content management systems (CMS) and other digital publishing platforms to build, update, test, troubleshoot, and publish content while ensuring accuracy, consistency, accessibility, and compliance with established standards.

A successful candidate will bring substantial hands-on experience working regularly in a professional CMS environment. Experience with Brightspot is highly desirable, but demonstrated expertise with other established content management systems is also valuable. Candidates should understand more than basic page creation. They should be comfortable working within structured content models, templates, components, publishing workflows, and governance standards as part of ongoing production work.

The position also requires a strong foundation in HTML. Team members regularly review and troubleshoot HTML, perform quality assurance, make code-level adjustments, and work with templates used to develop email content. The position does not require a front-end software engineer, but it does require someone who is comfortable reading, understanding, evaluating, and modifying HTML in a production environment.

This role works under the direction of a resource manager within Publishing Services and partners closely with project managers, editors, designers, developers, platform teams, and other publishing personnel. Work is generally received through task-management systems or assigned directly by the resource manager for operational and process-improvement initiatives.

Please note that while this is subject to change, we currently operate in a hybrid remote model. The team comes into the office every Monday and works remotely for the rest of the week.

Responsibilities

40% | Web CMS Production & Publishing

  • Create, update, configure, QA, and publish web content within a professional content management system.
  • Work with structured content, components, page templates, metadata, links, navigation, media, and other CMS-managed elements.
  • Ensure content is implemented consistently with established web standards, design systems, publishing guidelines, and governance requirements.
  • Troubleshoot content and presentation issues within the CMS and determine when issues require escalation to development or platform-support teams.
  • Participate in content migrations, site updates, publishing initiatives, and other web production activities.
  • Perform pre- and post-publication quality assurance.

40% | HTML & Email Production

  • Build, modify, review, and quality-check HTML used for email production.
  • Read existing HTML and identify markup, formatting, content, link, or template problems.
  • Make appropriate HTML adjustments while maintaining established design and technical standards.
  • Work with established email templates and production systems to prepare and publish email communications.
  • Test and troubleshoot digital content before release and correct production issues.
  • Partner with designers, editors, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure finished products meet requirements.

20% | Production Operations & Process Improvement

  • Manage assigned work through established production and task-management workflows.
  • Coordinate handoffs between editorial, design, project management, development, and publishing teams.
  • Troubleshoot recurring publishing issues and contribute to sustainable solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve templates, workflows, documentation, automation, and quality assurance.
  • Document processes and share knowledge with other team members.
  • Support other web and email production responsibilities as assigned by a team lead or resource manager.

Problem Solving

  • Troubleshoots web, email, CMS, and template issues methodically.
  • Distinguishes between content-production problems and issues requiring technical escalation.
  • Applies technical knowledge and production experience to develop practical solutions.
  • Identifies recurring problems and recommends improvements rather than repeatedly applying manual fixes.

Collaboration

  • Works effectively both independently and as part of a production team.
  • Collaborates with project managers, editors, designers, developers, platform administrators, and other stakeholders.
  • Works effectively within established review and approval processes.
  • Adapts to changing priorities and production demands.

Communication

  • Full-stack or application development
  • Original website design
  • InDesign-based print production

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
